Ketch's 10 Thoughts From the Weekend (I give you permission to dream big)

I love Gilbert but I think he's here for a couple of years minimum. One, I don't think he would bail on Charlie after one year (he has a two year deal I believe) but second he's only 38 and this is his first big boy job as a coordinator. texas is going to be loaded the next few years and Gilbert is likely smart enough to know be could write his ticket in a few years to a really good job

A school like Baylor that's facing a lot to rebuild its image isn't going to go to the well of hiring someone with no college head coaching experience that just finished his first year at a major school. Gilbert would be dumb walking into that dumpster fire this soon without more seasoning anyway

#5: No sane coach worth a flip will be taking the Baylor job when everything hits the fan.

#9: Good luck with Liverpool's back four - let me know when they get one world class defender, let alone a couple.
#5 Maybe you're right. I tend to think someone will view that job as one they can win fast at.

#9 Clyne, Matip and Lovren (with Sahko as the third guy) is pretty rock solid, It's a matter of soothing the issues at left back, which Milner has played fairly ok at in the last few weeks.

Briles could stay on as OC if they hire Gilbert. They can't name young Briles as the HC.
Yea, I guess there would be too much blow back from hiring any Briles for head coach at this point for Baylor.

Keenan Allen in the 2nd??
Target monster when healthy last year. Like Antonio Brown/Julio Jones level targeting. He wouldn't make it back to me in the third with several Rosterwatch guys looming.

If Baylor isn't going to have any NCAA sanctions so that any good candidate isn't turned off by possible sanctions, then Baylor is substantially more attractive than it was 5 seasons ago.

Briles showed you can win and win big there. Brand new stadium and great new facilities. They'll be an attractive option for somebody.

It's probably a good idea. A lot of incredible things have to happen first.
Exactly, let's see Texas have a 2008 type of season first before we get all panicky and want to name Gilbert "head coach in waiting"

...oh wait, Texas won't be doing that again. Ever!

The OL for Dallas was very disappointing today. I expected they'd be able to run the ball a lot better than they did today. There were no holes to run through and then Free couldn't handle JPP in the 4th qtr. Very disappointing performance.

I will be very surprised if Gilbert is offered the Baylor job. With their current climate, they'll want someone with a track record of running a clean program. The fact that he doesn't have a wife and kids probably won't help him either.

Because it's home? It's a place he could win early with.
How is it home? He's never coached at Baylor. He didn't go to school there so he wouldn't be going home to his alma matter. Other than running a similar system to art Briles he has zero ties to the school that I know of. He went to Angelo state and coached at bowling green and Tulsa.

Baylor faces a battle to stay relevant and they have a ton of work to do to repair that school. I would be surprised if they even offered Gilbert the job as he has no head experience in college and you really need an experienced head leader to stear that program back to being respected over just looking for someone based on running a similar offense.

@Ketchum Roach's body looks like a mixture of SDE, Fox and a little bit like a LB. Has a tweener build. I know it's early, but what position would you project him to play in the NFL?

When UT's president, AD, and CS met with Gilbert promises were made to Gilbert:
1) CS would be the head coach in 2017
2) Gilbert would be the OC in 2017
3) Gilbert could bring his OL coach

Gilbert in return promised to stay at Texas as OC through 2017. Gilbert isn't going anywhere until after 2017 season. He sure won't leave for sorry ass Baylor!!

Gilbert isn't in the top 5 candidates for BU. Gilbert could very well leave after 1 yr. as OC here but I doubt he would be offered a P5 job. None of the offensive coaches are staying at Baylor after this year. Clem, KB and Lebby are all Art's boys. The defensive coaches aren't.

Yeah, reading the minds of Baylor folks is next to impossible.

@KetchumIt's obvious that he needs an excellent OC to make his defense work...

If that was at all obvious then CS will never make it...what I do think is obvious is that CS thinks he is starting to stockpile the kind of defensive talent that could carry an average offense in a couple of years...win 10 this year and this D will be one of the best in the country in 2018.

A head gig at a school in Texas is pretty much home for this guy.

Kind of depends on what his body does from now until he leaves.

If Texas has a huge season, things could very easily change. Of course, he's not a guy at the top of the list right now.

@Ketchum If Gilbert leaves for Baylor (or anywhere for that matter), wouldn't you have to immediately put Charlie Strong back on the hotseat? It's obvious that he needs an excellent OC to make his defense work...
This is SO TRUE...........

No. Unless they get shot down by 5 or 6 other HC's then it's not going to happen. Both Chad and Sony would have to turn it down and both of them won't. Mack understands Sterlin works with a shit load of talent here at Texas. He isn't working with a bunch of 2 and 3 star guys here.

He's not on any hot seat if this team has the year that leads to his OC getting a head gig.
If Strong does not replace Gilbert with someone as good or better, he will be. History is already shown us that Strong team is no good without a really good OC

It's a little bit different when you have talent and a qb. Even Buechele would make Watson look better as did bridgewater. There are plenty of talented OCs out there.

Either way worrying about Gilbert leaving 2 games into his very first major gig is a waste of time

@Ketchum
You really think Gilbert would go to Baylor right now? They are kinda a mess in the BOR and the AD, not to mention the team. If he stays at Texas 2-4 more years he can get a much better HC gig than Baylor. Baylor looks like the house from The Money Pit right. You never know when the second floor is going to fall thru under your feet or the toilet is going to explode and leave sewage everywhere while destroying several other nearby rooms.
