Ketch's 10 Thoughts From The Weekend (I want to take it all back!)

IMO Kwame is a little high ; Mike Adams had a better career than Kwame

Wr #1 and Wr #2 are spot on, IMO.
Can’t argue against Ship at 1, even though Roy is probably my favorite Texas player from the early 2000s.

I would have to take Roy over Cosby - just forces the defense to play him differently and opens things up more

Go back and watch that 2008 season again especially OU and tOSU.

Roy doesn't do what Cosby did. Not receiving or blocking. That's how you win big games

Lam was world class fast but he couldn’t catch a cold. He was an All-American but that was because of athleticism and Olympic gold medal and not production as WR.
I guess I'm thinking of it like this...

a. Was he elite in his era? Yes.
b. Was he elite as an athlete? Yes.
c. Would he have posted incredible numbers in today's offenses? Yes.

Not everyone checks all three boxes.

In their prime if you give me three picks at WR I'll go with this group every single time in a big game (best Texas receivers)

1. Shipley (easily the best Texas WR all time) and probably a top 10 college receiver all time if he doesn't get injured

2. Cosby (Mr do everything and always came up huge)

3. Duvernay (last year was the first year he was given a chance to be his best)

I'll take all of those guys over Roy Williams who is one of my favorite Longhorn players ever.
Oh, I'd love having a Roy Williams that doesn't have to be a No.1.

Ketch,
I am pleased with your “take back” - as watching the big 12 so far really supports we should be 9-1if we can’t beat OU.
Our coaching , game Planning and game management all look superior to previous Herman teams. We’ve always had talent - and now we have the biggest ace in the college game - the excellent QB. We have all suffered the ups and downs of the past 3 years - I think (pray) we finally have the coaching staff to make the best of the material we have on hand.
That's what we're all hoping for. I want you guys to be excited in DEcember.

Shipley did have a horrific drop of a long TD pass in Lubbock in 2008. Along with many terrible memories from that game, that drop is up there. But other than that, all good! And clearly #1 on the list.
I'd say being the best offensive player on the team in 2009 made up for it. ;)

7-3 was realistic. In a world where the Big 12 is remotely as good as it can be in better years, it would be very realistic. You guys like to pretend to live in a world that doesn't exist sometimes. Me too. ;)
I mean it’s the easy and safe choice based on historical data. But, every year every team is different. The analysis should be separate each year. But I feel like you just went, eh, they haven’t earned the benefit of the doubt. I don’t want to look like a homer, 7-3 is about right.

I also remember you and the mods earlier this summer all agreeing Roschon would be 3rd string while I explained there was a good chance he started and led the team in rushing. I was basically laughed at.

Let's see what happens with his next fight.

Your thoughts about the OL tell me that this year’s recruiting at the position was a critical need and we have come up short. I hope there are some grad transfers out there or some jucos that we can go after because even if we have a decent line next year it looks like there will be little depth.

Wasn’t that in the conf. Champ game in 09 against Nebraska?

Every year for the last 10 years, Texas fans have overshot their marks in terms of appropriate self-worth. It might very well happen again.

Again, it’s the easy thing to say. The last 10 years don’t matter in regards to what happens this year.

we have more talent than anyone not named OU, and it’s honestly not close. 9-1 is the goal and expectation.

that wasn’t the case the last few years and most people were actually really realistic in guessing 8-4 or 9-3.

The offense looks crisper than it has since Mack, but I would pump the brakes until we see how the O-line holds up against a decent defense.

Thank goodness that you reached back to the old days for Cotton Speyrer. He made all the catches, all the big plays you could have asked for.

Sorry Ketch, no take backs. You will always be 7-3 guy this year. That may work out for you, never know but definitely can’t take it back after a week against UTEP

Lots of posts like this after week one over the years. Let's pick this up in December.

I continued to be baffled by the overwhelming belief on this bored that there is a slim to no chance of Sam returning season next season. Wonder how that opinion will be reflected upon him having a bad game....and by "bad" game I mean for all the reasons that he's not NFL ready.

Agree on the frustrating streaming delay. I hated getting a notification on my phone of Mane's first goal today a full minute before I saw it on the TV.

... DeShon Elliott is a better NFL player than he was a college player. I gotta be honest ... I wasn't sure he'd make it. Good for him

Elliot doesn’t get the credit from Texas fans. He was unanimous All American in 2017 along with Michael Dickson. A Thorpe Award finalist in his first year as a starter. He showed flashes as a Freshmen and Sophmore but played on the worst Texas Teams of the decade

It'll be a massive coaching and player failure if they lose outside of Oklahoma.

I would argue the failure has already been made. We are waiting to see if Herman and his team can recover from it.

I'll take all of those guys over Roy Williams for one season, and Roy is one of my favorite Longhorn players ever.

Roy didn’t play During the spread offense days like Ship, Dev and Cosby. His senior year stats were impacted by VY in the early part of his career still becoming a passer.

Cosby was so super clutch though. That's really the factor that puts you in that GREAT category. Do they come thru when the pressure's on? Do they perform their best in the biggest games?

Shipley wins that contest easily. All others stand behind him....But I think Quan is standing in that line.
