Ketch's 10 Thoughts From The Weekend (Kudos to PK, but what about 2023?)

@Ketchum the attachment within the first section won't pull up for me. States it can't complete the action at this time or that I don't have permission to view. Did it get removed or did the link get broken?

I never thought Dayne was on Ricky's level.
No, you're right, he didn't have that talent. With absolutely no research I would bet Ron Dayne's YPC was quite a bit lower and his number of carries was significantly higher.

I never thought Dayne was on Ricky's level.

but you were talking simple numbers. The reality is Ron Dayne and Cedric are pretty close to the same RB. His like Ricky, Jamaal and Bijan are on higher levels.

We all know Ricky is probably the best the majority of us will ever see in our lifetime. Curious if you have compared what Bijan numbers looked like with 30 games under his belt compared to Ricky’s did in 30 games? Plus receiving yards, all purpose yards etc?
I have not.

2000 - L to Tree that finished 5-6
2001 - L in CCG to a CU team we destroyed by 5 TDs 6 weeks earlier.
2002 - L to 7-4 Tech which ended up costing us CCG berth
2003 - horrible home to Arky. Ugly Bowl L to Wazzou.
2006 - L at KSU coached by Ron Prince. Home L to ACES that cost us CCG berth.
2007 - blowout by Ron Prince KSU team that went 5-7. L to ACES that went 7-6.
A lot of those teams you just listed were very good teams. Not the same as losing to a sub .500 team.

I’m not sure Q’s falloff is all due to regression but his accuracy and touch has sure been off since his “finger” injury. His throws have been more often high than not, and he’s undoubtedly become to quick to pull the trigger and not go through his progression.
He's not nearly as strong in the mental side of the game as he needs. Been saying it since August.

@Ketchum Ewers just does not make sense to me. He was rated as a prospect in the same way as Trevor Lawrence, Justin Fields, Caleb Williams., etc Yet, he cannot go through simple progressions in the passing game? And he's not a guy that makes plays with his feet. Were the recruiting analysts just straight up wrong about him? Nothing that I have seen from him suggests to me he is a generational talent (other than OU game). He's supposed to be known for his ability to make plays with his arm, but I'm seeing him miss pretty damn easy throws every week. Was he simply a product of being on a really good high school team?

I think his arm talent has been somewhat forgotten this season as things have gone on because he hasn't been able to really showcase it.

But, yeah, he might have been slightly overrated. Too early to tell, though.

When you get 70 % plus of the targets, you’re bound to score a lot of touchdowns. If worthy had the heart of J Whitt or Roschon things would be different. We’ll just agree to disagree.
Name another player in school history that can make such a claim of this accomplishment.

It’s intellectually dishonest to claim the ‘03 and ‘04 were REMOTELY part of the WC era. And it’s a stretch to say that about ‘01 & ‘02 ACES Ds. The four Ricky ran over were exponentially better than those crap Ds several years later.
Like I said, the defenses Ricky ran against were better. Much better.

This is what I hate about transferring now and what they’ve created. It’s just chickenshit to do that to a program. Yeah I know, Texas can do it too, but that just seems to send wrong messaging about building something
It's not chickenshit to do what's best for you.

Schools do it all the time and I doubt you have such strong reactions when it happens.

He will be expected to not quit on plays and catch the ball there also. For every big moment hes had this year hes had a bad one. If he goes good luck to him, if he stays I hope the X we saw a year ago comes back for his contract year.
With good quarterback play, let alone great, I expect him to have monster numbers.

I don’t get why people are so against giving Card a shot when Ewers is playing poorly. They both have limitations right now, but Card just played better this season. I just want the best opportunity to win and maybe it lights a fire in Ewers A$$. Right now he can play as poorly as Card at Arky and knows he stays in the game.
It's the Ewers dream that people don't want to believe might not be quite what they thought it was.

@Ketchum You can correct me if you feel differently, but I do expect Quinn to show a lot of progression next year. He has shown that he can be elite, but once the 3/3/5 defenses showed up it showed how little of the playbook he knew (as you talked about before the season how behind he was on the mental side). He couldn’t just rely on arm talent, but had to read, diagnose, and make the right throw showing he did not know anything beyond the first read. He has been humbled and will spend a lot of time on the mental side of running Sark’s offense creating much better QB play from him.
Would love to know if you feel similar or has he shown enough this year to not warrant that.
I agree that he could make a lot of progression. I'm not sure he's really showed that can be elite. One quarter against a down Alabama squad and 4 quarters against a bad OU don';t make for elite IMO.

So here's what I gathered from the column for the program going into 2023
  • Questionable QB situation
  • Bijan, Worthy, Whittington gone from the offense
  • 9 of the 14 defenders departing
Doesn't this sound like a rebuilding year then? I mean it kind of screams 7-5/8-4 type of year.

It's certainly not impossible to believe it could go that way. The improvement in quarterback play is critical.

What the fk.

Didn’t know Worthy was thinking about leaving.
That’s a huge loss
It's not a sure thing by any means, but you kind of have to use your head a little. He was literally in the Portal this off-season before UT talked him out of it.
