Ketch's 10 Thoughts From The Weekend (Let's just talk about it all... again)

Kinda sad IMO. It makes me question what all this is really about. I love winning as much as anyone but man, it’s bigger than that. It just feels slimy and gross how quickly reasonable people can ditch all basic values in exchange for more wins. Look at what’s happening at LSU and Penn State right now.
I think some will tell you it's simply about winning.

I think Herman needs to just keep his mouth shut at his press conference unlike last week when stupid crap came out when he spoke. Just focus on winning and let things play out. He should know by now that it's put up or shut up.

I expect Texas to win this weekend. Why would that change anything?
I think Herman completely takes control of the narrative with a win this weekend.

At some point, not talking earlier is going to force Del Conte out at some point IMO.

Maybe I'm wrong though, but he's getting painted into a corner the longer this goes... and a win on Saturday means this goes to 12/19.

I'd come out wildin'.

Do you think the guys at The Big Noon Kickoff were in the know when Brady mentioned to Urban about Austin being his pick for the best college town?

If you’re opinion doesn’t change with a Big 12 championship then I’d legitimately question your fandom. You despise Tom so much that you don’t want us to win out? You don’t see a realistic path? That’s just insane. I really feel bad for our student athletes that have to deal with fans like you. It’s pathetic and you come off as a snowflake

Thanks old sport

Why not just support the team like hell and root for us to win a conference title this? Amazing to me how many people could be mad at an 8-2 season and a CCG birth. It truly baffles me. And there is still a clear path for both of those to happen!

I am rooting for that but as to why people might not the answer is recruiting and perception

Body of work over four years including this year. Record against tcu. Record against ou. Immaturity of the head coach. Recruiting is not at an elite level. Potentially a hof coach is available. Last reason is enough in its own for me. Hard for me to not say the Baylor and wvu games were ugly ugly wins against bad teams.

I just don't see where you are getting this idea from. How is he getting painted into a corner?

Dear Ketch,
I enjoy your articles immensely. My I respectfully ask you to use the subjunctive tense properly.
If I were Tom Herman. If I were Chris Del Conte.
Great article!

Mack was really close
God, I still remember that first drive that Bama had on offense. Our defense was playing like their hair was on fire. And then Bama went for that inexplicable fake punt on 4th down ... backed up on their side of the field ... on their FIRST DRIVE. Saban was coaching scared.
We definitely win that game

Remember winning is really really really hard

So, the belief about Herman's comments regarding Del Conte in last week's press conference is that they were all lies? But, isn't that really cutting your nose off to spite your face? But, CDC won't even refute what was stated about him?

What would have been CDC's smartest response to Herman's comments about him?

If UM wants to be here I take no matter what the outcome of the season is. If I’m CDC Herman has to win out (that includes the Big XII championship) for me to even consider bringing him back. There also has to be some marked improvement in recruiting.

I think the pressure to come out and speak increases if Texas plays in the Big 12 title game.

He can't stay silent until 12/20 IMO.
He‘ll have to say something, but it will be very tepid.

Lets say Herman somehow survives. How long until recruiting recovers to even a mediocre level?

Thanks! You're correct! I blame Suchomel!

I'd rather lose Friday, lock down Urban (y'all know his acronym will be CUM, right?), and get to 'crooting then win three in a row and lose in predictable fashion to OU in the conference 'ship game.

The money is there. The desire is there. We do it or we don’t. This will be a very clarifying decision for the program.

Will the money be there for a coach other than Urban? Indiana coach, Oregon coach, Iowa State coach? They all look like rising stars but so did Herman.

I’m all for getting rid of Herman if he can’t win out but who do we get? Sam and all the seniors on this Texas team have played for 2-3 different coordinators on both sides of the ball during their careers. That is why they are not getting developed and where the easy negative recruiting comes in.

I just don’t want to repeat this cycle and I realize there are no easy answers. It’s frustrating that Texas football is in this possible position.

I can promise you that CDC and Tom’s relationship isn’t nearly as “fractured” as the media thinks. As a matter fact, what Tom said is pretty much accurate. Of course the “fire Tom Herman” crowd will never believe that, and that’s ok. Tom actually said it best when he mentioned the vocal minority.

What an emotional roller coaster I want success for the Texas football players and the program but I want Tom Herman gone this is going to be a tough Friday..
