Ketch's 10 Thoughts From The Weekend (Let's just talk about it all... again)

No. 4 - About Iowa State ...

Ummmm ... I was NOT expecting the Cyclones to beat the brakes off of Kansas State so badly on Saturday that I'm now questioning whether or not the Longhorns warrant being the favorite going into the game.

JMO, but a lot of OBers way overbuying that ISU result. Probably, much like the prior inability to consider a Mensa return with a CCG loss, there is a lot of desperation to have this thing done. They will be reading their press clippings then have to come in on a short week for a Friday am game against a very well rested and well prepped Texas team.

No. 6 - A Long Timeout ...

For those wondering about the No. 1 ranked Texas women's volleyball team, which just wrapped up another Big 12 title last weekend with a two-match takedown of Baylor, it'll be a while before the team is back on the court.

With its matches against TCU postponed this weekend, the team will now wait for its schedule and the looming NCAA Tournament ... in the spring.

When in the spring?

No one really knows. The NCAA Tournament show is expected to be on April 4th, but it remains to be seen exactly when the second half of the season will begin.

It's weird, but stay tuned.

Definitely odd

9. Shea Morenz Never Gets Hurt

Back in 1994, Morenz and future Texas legend James Brown somewhat shared the quarterback duties throughout the season, but it's easy to forget that Morenz was the undisputed starter at the time of his injury in the fourth quarter of a 34-10 home loss to Texas A&M and had been the nation's No. 1-ranked quarterback prospect when he arrived in Austin. Yet, he never played another down for the Longhorns after the A&M game because Brown took over in the final three games of the season and helped the Longhorns win out. The next spring, Morenz was drafted in the first round of the MLB Draft by the Yankees and took the money. Had he never lost his job to Brown, history likely looks completely different.

Not sure what you mean by "completely different" but IMO:

1. We never win a conference title with Morenz
2. We don't get VY

Of course, he is. Brian Davis all but said at the last press conference that he speaks with him often.
Right. But, wasn't it said in the modcast (by Anwar) that Brian Davis indicated that CDC never wants to answer questions about the football coach? I may have forgotten the exact comments.

Agree 100-percent. still a 50-50 game. maybe 53-47.

6. Adrian Peterson signs with Texas

If Peterson had signed with the Longhorns, there's a chance that Texas plays for national championships in every single one of his seasons and a Vince Young/Peterson duo would have been the best in the history of the sport.

Honestly, because I'm just a huge J-Charles fan and consider him a much better story person, if Peterson signing with Texas means we don't get Charles, then I'll gladly pass on signing Peterson.

Right. But, wasn't it said in the modcast (by Anwar) that Brian Davis indicated that CDC never wants to answer questions about the football program? I may have forgotten the exact comments.
He mentioned that he has asked CDC to go on record countless times this season and CDC always passes. He made it sound like they speak a lot.

I like Brian, but it was Brian who corrected a part about Hartzell not being in the meeting with players (I got that detail wrong) and literally didn't report anything else about the meeting.

He just corrected me, which was fair, but not reporting on anything else felt like a call/move made from above.

Morenz was really talented. There's also a chance that he becomes an NFL-level player.

And both of those things you said are likely true.

Okay. There's that "on record" comment again. That means that CDC only answers certain questions if he agrees not to pass it along to anyone else or put it out in any media for the world to see, right?

Were you in the Rose Bowl that night?

No. Not sure what that matters. Mack wasn't in the habit of "blowing out" teams in said type matchups. We were always going to struggle to stop Bama's run. And we were going to struggle at least at times to protect Colt. We weren't exactly a juggernaut coming into that game. It's almost as if people forget what damn near happened at Jerry World a month earlier.

I tend to think it means that he's speaking to people and giving them direction on reports, he just won't attach his name to it with a quote.

He literally believed that Herman put me up to the article I wrote. The response was to have three selected and specific head coaches to make statements without follow-up questioning for DC's favorite reporter.

You'd have to have been there to understand. Texas was on fire at the start of that game and there was an amazing buzz and energy on the Texas side before the Colt injury.

I don't have much to compare it to,. but the entire side of the Texas fiend felt like a pack of dogs going for the kill.

And then the air went out.

That doesn't mean that they'd want to play them.

Just for sh*ts and grins, let's say this is the CFP 4 teams.
Bama
Domer or Clemson
tOSU
BYU

Who do you think is the most desirable semifinal opponent for any of the teams not named BYU?

Games all the time start out with some kind of early fury only to settle in and become close contests.

Herman isn't losing his job if he wins the first conference title since 2009. H'e just not IMO.
Lets take this a little further. If he wins the CC,no doubt he stays IMO,if he loses in a close competitive game , He stays, If we get blown out in a 63-3 he's gone as it confirms we're not playing "big boy 'football and never will with him

Maybe. Something just felt different in that game. I have nothing else to compare it to. Texas should have been up double digits snd that was before Shipley started to do his thing.

I'll always believe an ass-kicking was on the way,

Sure. Lots of people let emotion cloud their judgement.

@RLong68 I think the best comparison I can make is that for the first part of that game, it felt like the second half of the Oklahoma State game from 2004 on the Texas side of the field.

I could easily be wrong, just as easily as you could not know what the **** you're talking about because you were't there. ;)

Biggest gut punch I’ve ever gotten at a game. I left my seats and just walked around the concourse for a few minutes.

Didn't we have 2 possession in the red zone very early in the game and could only mange two field goals? Bama's DL was pretty stout, and we all recall how Nebraska's DL manhandled our OL in Arlington.

My memory could be failing, but I recall that we had problems stopping their rushing attack, as well.

Take out the Colt injury and replace it with a touchdown on that drive.

Alabama would have been forced to go more away from the run if Colt plays.

Correct. There's a sense of irony is saying "well if Colt didn't get hurt we blow them out" given Colt got hurt because we couldn't block for sh*t. I mean, at some point that tends to be important in a football game.

The whole "what-if" centers around what didn't happen, not what did.

The "what if" is if he plays and is able to do what your boy Garrett Gilbert was able to do.... which is have Texas with the ball with a chance to win the game in the final moments.

Nebraska couldn't Pass OR run a month earlier and we needed a 46 yd FG with no time left to win the game. Are we forgetting that?

So no instead of a blowout we're talking chance to win with 3 minutes left? I mean, pretty sure I clearly stated us WINNING with Colt was a real possibility.

Nope.

Texas wasn't very good in 2009.

But, it as primed in that game.

You weren't in the building that night. You don't have a full perspective that really matters on this one from my own perspective.

I don't play the what-if games very much and you'd be hard-pressed to find another game I've ever said this about. Just my feelings on the matter and they will never change.
