Ketch's 10 Thoughts From The Weekend (Let's keep it real about Quinn)

Texas just needs to keep winning because others will fall by the wayside. One poster said that Florida State has nothing but duds left on its schedule. I think that Louisville would beg to differ. I don't think FSU will beat the Cardinals. Either UDub or Oregon will lose at least one more game. Would be mathematically impossible not to. Likewise, Michigan and OSU, as well as Georgia/Alabama.

Completely agree with you on everything Quinn related, and I think the most interesting aspect of this is… it could easily be the better business decision for him to come back? If he comes back and has a legitimately great year, there’s really not a ton of dudes in the next QB class that would push him out of the top tier right? Maybe Sanders if he comes back to Colorado, but I can’t really think of anyone else that you would absolutely put ahead of him. I could be missing some guys, but it would have to be considered weak compared to the QB depth in this class.

I'd like to see Ewers add some good weight and get to 210 or so. I'd love to see him come back, and it would benefit him and the team to do so. As others have stated though, what about Arch? Man I'd love to hear what Arch really looks like in practice compared to Murphy right now. It would be interesting to know if Murphy is as erratic and careless with the ball in practice as he is in games.

There will always be guys that come out of nowhere. al la Joe Burrow. But the NFL also doesn't know what to do with QBs either. Think of all the QBs that are drafted and bust all the time. Too many to count.

presuming QE stays and Maalik transfers, I suppose that makes the commitment of Trey Owen's that much more important. So, beyond his statistics, what are experts saying about him this season?

Well, I wouldn't want to see Quinn gain back all the weight he lost because he's been much more mobile this season. Even with the extra weight last year, he was injury prone.

Nah, it just always seems harder at TEXAS. Other schools take first year guys and plug in and play well…..
in ATX , you have to be here for 3 years to learn the playbook etc etc .
Good lord, have you always been such a nattering nabob of negativism? For some reason I seem to remember you being pretty levelheaded and reasonable. Maybe it’s just because you’re old as dirt now and grumpy?

1. Why Oregon over Texas?

2. To me, the headline Saturday should have been “Texas beats surging KSU team despite backup QB turnover issues”. Maalik in his second start and turning the ball over so fluidly is a huge context point people are missing. Winning ugly games with backup qbs is something trophy teams do.

Credit where it is due.

3. To me this is a big part of the “late game meltdown” issues. Without the Maalik turnovers this game isn’t in the same boat as the previous. I know, same result, but it’s important to assess cause and not just pattern match without thoughtfulness.

Yeah but that was bad weight. Getting a little more muscular would maybe help him be able to absorb some of the hits he takes a little better. Of course he needs to not take on defenders like he has at times.

Texas hasn't played at a high level since.... September.

It's November 6th.
They haven't played 2 full games with the starting QB since September. They've also been riddled with injuries over the last month or so, with their best pass rusher, their best safety, their best corner in addition to the quarterback being unavailable over much of that stretch.

I really don't know what to do with Michigan at this point. If the Big 10 does nothing with the Wolverines, it could make for an embarrassing situation when the playoff spots are handed out.
The problem lies within the timing. Michigan has 90 days to respond to any official notice sent to them, so if they wait to respond, the season will be over.

... Maybe Oklahoma should have waited to celebrate a Super Bowl win until ... well ... they played in a Super Bowl. That reaction (complete with tattoos) feels really silly at the moment.

What was this all about? I missed it. If it was after they beat us, I pretty much missed paying attention to any college football most of that following week.

Ketch, wat's your gut feeling about Quinn playing against TCU, yay or nay?

I wonder if the recruiting services saw Quinn has a sophomore and he was probably 6'2" 175 and thought he would get to 6'4" 215 by his senior year but never really filled out or grew. I had a friend in 8th grade that was 6'1"doctors told him he would be 6'7". His senior year he was 6'1"
I think the arm talent and his highlight tape looked great.

No, but I don’t believe Ewers will be worth losing Arch. Ewers has to prove that he has a higher ceiling than he currently is, and I’m not sure that’s a guarantee. Arch could be great in his 3rd year.
He can only prove that by coming back.

Arch doesn't look remotely ready so far in practice.

He's very good.

1. I just think they are better and playing better football.

2. None of the teams KSU beat while they were surging have winning records.

It doesn't make the statement that they haven't played 4 quarters of quality football much this season,.

They had players getting UT tats after the game.

Vanderbilt, Miss st, Auburn. Both of these guys would start at those schools in my opinion. This is just in the SEC. There are plenty of programs that would take the upside of either player over what they currently have, which is nothing.
