What were your thoughts on Colt after 2007?Yeah… Got anything to add? I guess I don’t see what you see. He’s very good at managing the game without turning the ball over, but he’s not Colt or Vince.

It's not seriously on the table.the only way that happens is Ewers comes back strong with no further issues and plays very good at least in the rest of our games. if Ewers is erratic and leaves he'll go 3rd at best.
Ewers also could have a very good offensive line which is looking like the old days when we could actually block people. and we could have the top two running backs tandem in the nation, as good as Bijan and Johnson were.
whoever is qb1 next year will have plenty of people to throw to. that won't be an excuse whoever is qb next season.
maybe Ohio State will take him back?
bahahhaaa
seriously ketch, if Ewers leaves UT but doesn't go Pro any ventures of a guess where he'd end up?
He had a great freshman year and a disappointing sophomore year. I thought he was talented and had a bright future if he could cut down on the mistakes, which he did. What were your thoughts on Colt after 2007?
Not this year, but perhaps he will be ready in the summer of 2024. If he’s not ready by next season then I think his 5 star status was a poor evaluation by every recruiting site. Like it or not, this isn’t the 2000s where you can have QBs wait until their 3rd year to show signs of life. The game has changed and he will need to be ready by next season or people will start to think he won’t pan out. He's not ready. His family knows it, too.
Not approval. Acknowledgment. It didn't occur to me that they would be looking for some sort of approval from me.
No, I said his floor is about where Ewers is now. I.e., I think at some point next year, Arch will at least be a low turnover, 65-70 percent passer who can consistently hit short to intermediate throws (assuming he has the same high level OL and WR play Quinn has). Texas does not depend on Ewers to win games for them. They just want him to distribute the ball and avoid turnovers. You think Arch's floor is Ewers' ceiling?
You thought his upside was higher than Ewers? He had a great freshman year and a disappointing sophomore year. I thought he was talented and had a bright future if he could cut down on the mistakes, which he did.
Perhaps. I agree. Not this year, but perhaps he will be ready in the summer of 2024. If he’s not ready by next season then I think his 5 star status was a poor evaluation by every recruiting site. I've already acknowledged it, though. Not approval. Acknowledgment.
The 2007 team had many flaws and Colt was disappointing, but I never doubted his talent. Ewers hasn’t shown anything close to Colts level. This is why I compare him to Ehlinger. He never got better after his sophomore year. It’s not a knock on Ewers, I just don’t see a special player. You thought his upside was higher than Ewers?
Exactly. It's not like we don't have examples of very inexperienced QBs coming in, playing at a high level and making their teams playoff contenders. Not this year, but perhaps he will be ready in the summer of 2024. If he’s not ready by next season then I think his 5 star status was a poor evaluation by every recruiting site. Yeah,I'm not sure that's fair or correct.
He hit some pretty good deep balls in Tuscaloosa didn't he?I’m not sure Ewers is a good fit for the Sarkisian offense. Hitting the deep ball is paramount and he is lacking in that part of the game. Also, why do we want an injury prone QB to return with every single offensive weapon leaving after the season?
Something's wrong with the world today,No. 10 - The List: Aerosmith ...
Sure, but he’s still missed his fair share. The problem with Ewers is he doesn’t make the players around him better. You can win with him at QB, but he’s going to need a lot of talent surrounding him. He’s basically AJ McCarron with more arm talent. Nothing wrong with that.He hit some pretty good deep balls in Tuscaloosa didn't he?
You’re comparing him to top 3 nfl picks… and Jj knew the defensive plays!Exactly. It's not like we don't have examples of very inexperienced QBs coming in, playing at a high level and making their teams playoff contenders.
CJ Stroud - RS Freshman in 2021 - 317 of 441 (71.9%), 4435 yards, 44 TD, 6 Int, 186.6 Passer Rating
(0 pass attempts as a freshman)
Bryce Young - True Soph in 2021 - 366 of 547 (66.9%), 4872 yards, 47 TD, 7 Int, 167.5 Passer Rating

Caleb Williams - True Soph in 2022 - 333 of 500 (66.6%), 4537 yards, 42 TD, 5 Int, 168.5 Passer Rating
(21 TD/4 Int, 169.5 rating as a freshman)
JJ McCarthy - True Soph in 2022 - 208 of 322 (64.6%), 2719 yards 22 TD, 5 Int, 155.0 Passer Rating
(5 TD/2 Int, 152.3 rating as a freshman)
Quinn Ewers - RS Freshman 2022 - 151 of 213 (58.1%) 2177 yards 15 TD, 6 Int, 132.6 Passer Rating
(0 pass attempts as a freshman)
A bit of a disappointing 2nd year for Quinn, considering that he was ranked higher than all of the guys listed above, coming out of high school. If he had played as well as McCarthy did last year, there's little doubt that Texas would have at least made the Big 12 championship game.
He was the number 1 recruit. He should be in the same conversation. You’re comparing him to top 3 nfl picks… and Jj knew the defensive plays!
Don’t get me wrong. I love the song, but it’s just not my favorite by them. Not that it matters, but Rolling Stone magazine calls it one of the best 200 songs of all-time.
sua went to the “dark side” after Mack.🙃Good lord, have you always been such a nattering nabob of negativism? For some reason I seem to remember you being pretty levelheaded and reasonable. Maybe it’s just because you’re old as dirt now and grumpy?
From what I know - and I know just enough - I sincerely doubt it.Maybe Sark'll {and a couple of scouts} be able to talk some sense into Quinn & his parents.
Ewers is nothing like Ehlinger.True, but I see Ewers like I see Ehlinger, peaking after his second year.
That's sort of the point. The seasons listed for each guy was Year 2 in college, not the NFL. Although they were all lower rated recruits than Ewers, they were extremely good players from the moment they hit the field as True sophomores or RS freshmen. If you're a special player, it doesn't necessarily take years for that to show up on the field. You’re comparing him to top 3 nfl picks… and Jj knew the defensive plays!
Ok I see.. well I certainly don’t think the ratings are the end all be all.. they’re made by glorified fans after all. Quinn was a miss as far as ratings are concernedThat's sort of the point. The seasons listed for each guy was Year 2 in college, not the NFL. Although they were all lower rated recruits than Ewers, they were extremely good players from the moment they hit the field as True sophomores or RS freshmen. So is that a failure of Quinn or the rankingsHe was the number 1 recruit. He should be in the same conversation.
I just don't get all the disrespect for Quinn. He makes throws look so easy. Needs work on deep ball. But everything else is looking good. Compared to other 5 star QBs since 2020The 2007 team had many flaws and Colt was disappointing, but I never doubted his talent. Ewers hasn’t shown anything close to Colts level. This is why I compare him to Ehlinger. He never got better after his sophomore year. It’s not a knock on Ewers, I just don’t see a special player.
The crazy part is I’m not disrespecting him. I’m simply saying that at this current moment he is a game manager. You can win championships with that but you have to have elite talent surrounding him.I just don't get all the disrespect for Quinn. He makes throws look so easy. Needs work on deep ball. But everything else is looking good. Compared to other 5 star QBs since 2020
2019
Spencer Rattler, Bo Nix
2020
Bryce Young, DJ Uiagalelei, Harrison Bailey
2021
Quinn Ewers, Caleb Williams, Brock Vandagriff, Ty Thompson, Sam Huard
2022
Kade Klubnik, Walker Howard, **Ty Simpson**, **Connor Weigman** (Just outside 5 star ranked 35 & 36 respectively)
2023
Arch Manning, Nico Iamaleava, Dante Moore, Malachi Nelson, Jackson Arnold
I think it would be fair to say Quinn is easily the 3rd best player on this list of 5 stars behind Bryce Young and Caleb Williams two Heisman trophy winners. I would take Quinn over everyone else on this 5 star list. There's still a lot of meat left on this bone for the season.
Put some RESPECT on Quinn Ewers name!
Tom Brady was a game manager for the first 3 Superbowl teams. The crazy part is I’m not disrespecting him. I’m simply saying that at this current moment he is a game manager. You can win championships with that but you have to have elite talent surrounding him.
I don’t disagree with that. I just don’t think Ewers is going to turn into that.Tom Brady was a game manager for the first 3 Superbowl teams.
I've been saying he's playing against TCU since last week.Login • Instagram

Just trying to read the tea leaves here lol

He's literally in the middle of the second-best passing season in Texas school history,Exactly. It's not like we don't have examples of very inexperienced QBs coming in, playing at a high level and making their teams playoff contenders.

They were ok. I'm defending Ewers in this thread, but his deep passing does kind of suck.He hit some pretty good deep balls in Tuscaloosa didn't he?
