I see the Notre Dame game differently. We are playing a better (for now) program. We are loaded with freshmen and sophomores. We will have a QB starting the first game he walks on the field in a college uniform.
The Cal and Ok State pair of games is more important in my view.
"On paper, he’ll have a team that should be able to stand toe to toe with the Irish in a way that it never could a season ago."
Explain this a little better if you could, @Ketchum. Do the "on paper" position matchups. I know ND lost some big time play makers, but I'm not sure we have any more of an advantage at any position on the field compared to last year's matchup.
ND is the better team on paper
Right. And I think @Ketchum would concede that fact. He made it sound like we has a couple of positions better than ND on paper this year than we did last year.
Going into the 2015 ND matchup:ND is the better team on paper but at least a TD
Ha! Just pointed out the same. Our CBs and RBs are better. Probably LBs as well. We'll see though.
4. Another former player told me this week that expectations for the incoming freshmen defensive tackles should be tempered quite a bit for this season. “I don’t really see anyone like Patrick Hudson (in the group),” the source said.
It means we shouldn't think we'll be great and should instead *hope* to be good. Move the expectations down a peg on the chart.@Ketchum Care to elaborate on this little nugget? I'm assuming this doesn't mean it will be a disaster, but also means that we don't have a world beater like Hudson on the DL. In other words, we'll be ok, but not great?
Agree with this. That win set the stage. The 06 opener was also big And rightly predicted a that we were not MNC material that yearI can make a case that the biggest opening game in the last 25 years was in 2005. If we hadn't won that one, we wouldn't have won the Natty. So, yes, you're being too dramatic anout this year's opener. It'll be a huge game for the Horns and Strong's career without the hype.
Wow, it appears the athletic department finally hired someone who knows how to make a hype video.
This makes no sense when talking about calculating expectations. Either you incorrectly didn't factor in the probability what the shaky kicking game could cost the team in total wins, or you incorrectly aren't factoring in the added points the team will get with an upgrade at the kicking position.BUY or SELL: Texas wins at least one extra game with the addition of LSU grad transfer kicker?
(Sell) I’m not sure I look at the schedule quite like that, but the good news is that Texas might not lose a game it would have otherwise won because of the kicking position.
If you two are referring to the Ohio St games I don't believe either of those were the season openers and instead were both the 2nd games of the season.Agree with this. That win set the stage. The 06 opener was also big And rightly predicted a that we were not MNC material that year
Ketch, re Fowler, the last report said he had to make an A and a B in two classes to get in. Is that what you're all in on?
Also, if our DT freshmen aren't ready, will we have an adequate DT rotation?
Correct. In 2015, the opener was a 60-3 beat down of mighty LA-LA.If you two are referring to the Ohio St games I don't believe either of those were the season openers and instead were both the 2nd games of the season.
I agree totally about Strong not putting the program's best foot forward at Big 12 media days with the best guys. Should have been the youth and strength of the program front and center. Who better than them to talk about the vision of the program. Definitely a lost opportunity.
"(Sell) I’m not sure I look at the schedule quite like that, but the good news is that Texas might not lose a game it would have otherwise won because of the kicking position."
Uh...wut?
Jordan Elliott looks in great shape and if his mind is right he could be a serious contributor this season.@Ketchum Care to elaborate on this little nugget? I'm assuming this doesn't mean it will be a disaster, but also means that we don't have a world beater like Hudson on the DL. In other words, we'll be ok, but not great?
Better:Our CBs and RBs are better. Probably LBs as well. We'll see though.
In a 12-game season, some games matter more than others and I can make the case that the Notre Dame game ranks as the most important game of Strong's coaching career to date
I think Boyette will surprise this year anyway.
