Ketch's 10 Thoughts From The Weekend (The truth may hurt, but it's the truth)

a. Because they aren't the same thing. A national top 150 player is nothing more than a glorified national top 600 player.

b. Of course.
I’m viewing it from the perspective of the player, regardless of their ranking, who all have the same goal which is to get drafted. And I’m not so sure their ranking (in of itself) gets them drafted, but rather their hard work and development.

Just my belief, I guess. Especially since even the top player ranking barely gets decent casino betting odds.

The OL position performs worse than other positions at the top, but borderline 50-50 or even 3:1 is a hell of a lot better than 5:1 odds or worse.

It especially comes into play when we're talking about high level NFL talents that go on the first two days of the draft.

But, yes, development matters a lot.

So there’s smoke that Brenen Thompson might be committing to Oregon soon too. That would be 2 of our must gets off the board to Oregon. Hopefully it’s just smoke and nothing more.

Sark is going to have to improve on Herman's record in his first year to see meaningful results in recruiting. That said, if Herman had played Bijan a few more plays last year, we might have been 9-1 instead of 7-3, so I think it is doable, even though replacing a QB is no small task.
There are many on here that think just winning will solve our recruiting woes with the top kids. Fast forward to Bama and all the winning they have done and they still find it necessary to pay for certain top recruits. Until Texas is willing to do the same not much will change

If I had to bet money on it I’d bet Banks doesn’t sign with Oregon. That’s a long time for a school like Oregon to hang onto a kid from Texas who’s going to still be recruited hard by all the big time programs.
He may have to. Probably got more money than he can pay back.

Which recruits has Bama paid for?

Isn’t this the cart before the horse scenario? If you don’t have the players you can’t win big. If you don’t win big, you can’t get the players. If the current O line isn’t good enough, or the QB situation is too green, or the WR Corp not good enough-yet, how do they get to 10 wins, including a win over OU.? I think that’s asking too much of the staff in the first year. If they can’t get the elite players at that position your asking TX to do something I don’t even think Mack was able to accomplish. Where is the allegiance to the University? What happened to going to a school because it’s a great opportunity? Do these players think they won’t get exposure at Texas to showcase their abilities to the NFL? That makes no sense, at least to me, but I’m just an old guy. I think everyone is getting tired of anticipating good news and being disappointed with bad news. It’s human nature, it’s reality. Sark is going to have to do something historically that TX hasn’t been able to do- win with less talented players. Iowa State did it, K State has done it, TCU occasionally has done it(especially against Texas). I really like Sark and his staff,. They must be thinking TX/we shouldn’t be having these problems getting elite players to buy in.

It has been hard on these schools too...Tennessee, Michigan, Penn State, Florida, Florida State, Washington, Colorado, Nebraska, Miami, etc. All of those teams have experienced elite status in their histories yet have floundered for the most part for decades. There are some outlier seasons occasionally. It is just hard to get back to elite status for a variety of reasons. Everything just has to come together.

Texas needs to put together a few decent seasons and has some problems to address this year. I think we have holes in our secondary. Jamison seems like the best player by a long way. Thompson and Green just have not matured yet as DBs that can compete consistently with good WRs. Safeties could be a mess unless some of the younger guys step up. LBs could be solid but not a certainty. Interior Def line should be a plus. Edge rushing is a concern.

We will start the most inexperienced QBs vs OU, ISU, OSU, Baylor, KSU, TCU, and WVU. RBs look good assuming Bijan stays healthy. I think OL can be solid. WRs is a crap shoot. The Horns really need some young, unproven WRs to step up. Think Omeire or the transfer. The tight ends have not been a consistent plus, but there is some experience in Brewer and Wiley.

The good news is there are talented transfers and new guys. Also, the team was competitive with everyone in the conference last year. Of course, they were led by a very experienced, tough, and competitive QB on offense and a playmaking edge rusher on defense. If they can fill those voids, which is a big ask, they should be competitive again. There will likely be growing pains with a new staff. We just have to hope for one of those magical seasons where things click and they win most close games.

If one of the QBs steps up, and Sark and PK can work their magic, they have a chance make some noise. However, so many things have to come together. Sark had success at Alabama as an OC. However, the roster was elite, which likely makes a difference.

good post

@Ketchum have you seen anyone actually make money on the NIL from Texas? I think recruits are going to want to see what teams are actually helping kids make money.

@Ketchum FSU seems to be having success recruiting Olinemen and overall this year…what do they currently bring that we don’t???

Don't shoot the messenger.
The actual facts (message) are that a couple of O-line recruits that you believed were going to choose Texas, chose to "commit" to Oregon and Ohio State reached in and took another highly ranked player from the state (what else is new).

Your speculations are that Sark is not getting the benefit of a doubt from recruits that Strong and Herman got; Sark is going to have to win big and beat OU this year to turn this around; Sark has to win 10+ games this year to get the attention of elite recruits; Texas is not likely to end up with a top 5 recruiting class (even though it was pure speculation to begin with that they were on the path to getting such a class).

Keep in mind that all of these speculations could be as wrong as your initial belief that Texas had a lock on these players. What if issues like the TEOT fiasco or the 6th street shooting are playing a bigger role in these decisions than we've allowed ourselves to believe. As the parent of a young Black man who is just a few years older than most of these guys being recruited, those incidents/issues certainly would have not have been ignored in our decision about where my son would attend college.

Also, a quick check of the actual Rivals history reveals that Strong didn't even have a single class finish in the Rivals Top 10 in his entire short lived tenure as head coach at Texas and had only one player ranked as the elite of the elite (Malik Jefferson) in his first full class. So it's not exactly clear that he got "the benefit of a doubt" at that time.

The Patriot didn’t make the list of Top Ten Patriotic movies??? My wife just said it would be number one and I agreed. Not even on the list??
