Ketch's 10 Thoughts From The Weekend (About the quarterbacks... again)

Part of what has to happen in these final five games includes the Longhorns finishing the season not looking like they are absolute light years behind Georgia on the national level. I've said for months that I believe the Longhorns will land Manning if they make the Big 12 championship game and just show signs of progress in year one as part of a process headed for big things. Anything less than that makes it hard to believe that Texas will finish as anything more than the maid of honor.

And reading that, what makes me a bit leery is that we have two roadies up next both of which are most certainly loseable. Both teams are going to line up physically and come right the eff at us. And when your D is not real good then you are going to have problems on the road. Simple as that. It's certainly reasonable to think that BOTH Baylor and ISU are better than TCU against whom we really struggled to put away.

(Buy) This is a real that exists in my head when I think about someone like Devon Campbell.

Every year it seems there is a player that is long rumored to be a Texas lean but never pull the triggers and seemingly looks for any reason to NOT commit to Texas. I think we can solidly say the player that strongly fits that bill is Campbell. Maybe he ends up committing to Texas, but literally, his committing elsewhere should surprise NOBODY.

From my vantage point, this entire recruitment is going to come down to Sarkisian's ability to paint a picture for Manning that doesn't involve Texas looking like a much riskier pick than Georgia. As much as the Mannings respect Sarkisian and feel at home in Austin, a business decision will eventually be made and good business decisions often come down to minimizing risks.

At the end of the day, the Manning clan almost certainly is not going to have their pick of the litter for Arch only to choose the one that clearly is the runt. This ship sure AF better do a 180 QUICK and win the next 5 games to have any real hope. Unfortunately the Mannings aren't your typical elite recruit's family. Clearly they are WELL VERSED in the workings of major college football programs and sure as hell know whats what. There will be no pulling the wool over their eyes. While at one point Arch was the type of recruit we could really land because there was not "hangers on" "uncles" or whatever other bullsh*t to deal with. Unfortunately we are now at a disadvantage in that we've sh*t the bed and frankly, there's no bullsh*tting the Mannings.

The 8-4 call doesn’t pass the eyeball test.

This is a 7-5 team.

Probably gonna come down to Morgantown. It's hard to see us still having just 3 losses after games in Waco and Ames.

7. Caleb Williams may turn into a good QB, but so far his WRs have made him look a lot better than his play. He threw three hail marys against us and got lucky on all of them. He threw more against TCU and again got lucky. He should have been stopped for a loss on his TDrun against us. Luck evens out over time.

I feel like that's a cut and paste about every OU QB OB has tried to downgrade under Riley. I guess it might have finally been accurate about Rattler. But even a blind squirrel finds an acorn from time to time.

As for Card, I haven't heard a lot of loud whispers about discontent from Lakeway since he got the hook in the third quarter against Arkansas. He's kept his head down and seemingly been a pretty good soldier.

As I would be, with our current OL.

That Devon Campbell foreshadowing would be a real kick in the nuts if it came to fruition.

If you haven't been prepping for Campbell to pledge elsewhere already you are doing it wrong. Hopefully I end up being wrong but him NOT committing to Texas should be of zero surprise to any Texas fan who's been following OL recruiting.

I think Card's book isn't completely written. He's had seven quarters.

That leadership only gets you so far when you don't play well consistently.

Sarkisian, the QB expert, closed that book for a reason

It’s harder to lead when your teammates believe you’re visibly shaken and not ready for the moment 🤷🏾‍♂️

You don’t seem even remotely aware of the mayhem he deals with behind the worst offensive line in my 52 years of attending games. Really. He barely had time to make a simple handoff on some plays. Your stats are meaningless when trying to throw behind that lack of protection.

If Card does not play at least 50% of the snaps against Baylor, he should immediately enter the portal. If he does not play 50% of the snaps against Baylor, Sark Fvcked him by burning his redshirt for 1 play. If you made your decision on Card based on three quarters of bad play in a hostile environment on the road, and you don’t make the same decision on Thompson for just as bad a performance at home with the crowd behind you, then you are an idiot, and are prejudiced against Card for some reason other than performance.

Thank you Ms. Card.

If he was my son I would be furious at the double standard that has been applied. I also would be furious that Sark wasted a year of his eligibility for one play.

If he were my son, I'd like to think I'd be more focused on keeping my kid from simply quitting because he wasn't handed something. There's something to be said for having some grit. I also wouldn't be concerned about my kid not being eligible in year SIX.

You're assuming, like Ketch, that there haven't been any conversations between the player and the coaching staff.

You have no idea if he should be furious or not.

Ketch is just stirring the pot and trying to prove his prediction from the summer was the correct one.

Let's play what if....

What if this staff knew the O-line was the weak link but during the ARK game it became apparent that it was more of a problem than just a weak link and that led to Sark and Hudson (together) making the decision to sit on the bench, learn the system, and receive a year of development prior to being subjected to the hits and potential PTSD?

Not saying that is the case....just what if.

The what if you and Ketch are playing is that Card is in the dark on all the decision making and purposefully being treated unfairly.

It's typical for this place.

Agree.

You're using a word that is never mentioned.

It's a subjective deal as to whether his being treated differently is unfair. You haven't quoted the part where you believe I suggested it was.

That's a bit of a stretch. In this context, whether or not you intended it to mean that, when you are talking about Card being treated "different" you most certainly open up the interpretation of that to mean "unfairly." At a minimum.

Honestly, that's quite telling. Kerstetter isn'r really "versatile" in that he's nothing but average at best at any of the 3 positions. The fact so many think of him as our best OL is telling of our troubles. He's simply not very good. particularly for a year 5 guy.
I didn't say he was good. I just said he was important to the current group.

'Member the debate last week about Okie Lite's win over Baylor? I 'member. The Bears put on a soaking of BYU and abused them. A power gun game coming straight at you is not exactly a favorable matchup for our run defense.
It's an ominous problem.
