Ketch's 10 Thoughts From The Weekend (About the quarterbacks... again)

And reading that, what makes me a bit leery is that we have two roadies up next both of which are most certainly loseable. Both teams are going to line up physically and come right the eff at us. And when your D is not real good then you are going to have problems on the road. Simple as that. It's certainly reasonable to think that BOTH Baylor and ISU are better than TCU against whom we really struggled to put away.
Everyone's hackles should be up.

That he was treated differently. I wasn't implying anything as much as I was stating what happened.
I'll take your word on that.

To be fair, my initial comment was to a poster responding to your article.

At the end of the day, the Manning clan almost certainly is not going to have their pick of the litter for Arch only to choose the one that clearly is the runt. This ship sure AF better do a 180 QUICK and win the next 5 games to have any real hope. Unfortunately the Mannings aren't your typical elite recruit's family. Clearly they are WELL VERSED in the workings of major college football programs and sure as hell know whats what. There will be no pulling the wool over their eyes. While at one point Arch was the type of recruit we could really land because there was not "hangers on" "uncles" or whatever other bullsh*t to deal with. Unfortunately we are now at a disadvantage in that we've sh*t the bed and frankly, there's no bullsh*tting the Mannings.

He gonna get paid this offseason. Nice. Always odd some on OB didn't like that guy for no other reason than he was close to Charlie I guess. Just odd.
The hate for Charlie at the end meant anyone remotely next to him was going to get run over.

@Ketchum i hope you and @Anwar Richardson take the gloves off and have a real conversation on the QB situation on the overreaction pod today. The way the QB process has played out this year has been laughable. And the QB who has the talent to be a superstar is missing out on valuable reps because the other guy forced an ultimatum upon Sark. There is no explanation for Sark not letting Card gain confidence and develop by starting him against Rice and Tech. Let him correct his mistakes and grow since he’s, ya know, a redshirt freshman with little experience. I will continue to praise Card on how classy he has handled this process. Hell of a lot more than we can say about the other guy.

I feel like that's a cut and paste about every OU QB OB has tried to downgrade under Riley. I guess it might have finally been accurate about Rattler. But even a blind squirrel finds an acorn from time to time.
That's Big 12-title winning Spencer Rattler, pal. ;)

Whatever emotion and feelings come with the Card / Thompson dilemma, Ketch factually spelled out how the treatment has been completely different.

Treatment has 100% been different and it’s a huge red flag on Sark. Casey threw a fit and got his way.

You don’t seem even remotely aware of the mayhem he deals with behind the worst offensive line in my 52 years of attending games. Really. He barely had time to make a simple handoff on some plays. Your stats are meaningless when trying to throw behind that lack of protection.
I literally wrote my second section of the column about the up-shit-creek nature of what next year's line might look like. No one has written more about that group than me.

You could put the top three in any order and the list would still be great!! Hurt is a great song and fits perfect with the pain of losing a game or a season ending.

That's a bit of a stretch. In this context, whether or not you intended it to mean that, when you are talking about Card being treated "different" you most certainly open up the interpretation of that to mean "unfairly." At a minimum.

you most certainly open up the interpretation of that to mean "unfairly."

well, yeah. That's what happens in general when a situation like it occurs.

That's not me telling you it's unfair, it's simply the natural instinct to make that assertion in life when it happens in every walk of life telling you that.

Casey had one bad game. He played well enough to lead his team to a win against TCU. He led his team to 48 points and threw 5 TDs against Oklahoma. He didn’t play well against Oklahoma State. Period. To be fair, neither did his offensive line or receivers.
This is a sad take coming from a Mod that gets paid to cover football. I would take your bias lenses off and see it for what it is. Card is the younger QB with way more upside and arm talent he should be starting no questions asked. You see the deep digs the O line played by far their worst game of the year against Arkansas they couldn’t run the ball at all, was card rattled yes he was as would probably anyone in that environment but he didn’t turn the ball over.

If not for the greatness of Bijan Texas would have lost to TCU. Thompson was exposed like I said he would be. OU game he disappeared when the team needed him and he was an abortion and lost the game against OSU. Stop defending mediocrity!!!

@Anwar Richardson Please take a photo of @Ketchum when Sark disagrees with him on the topic of Casey Thompson starting over Hudson Card.

Then post the photo here and name the piece @Ketchum ‘s awakening
Who did I say in this column should be the starter?

I'll hang up and listen.

I am not calling for Card to play a single down against Baylor if Thompson plays well. I'm of the opinion that Card possibly playing needs to be on the table if he doesn't.

I don't I said you did. Just pointing out what that means about the state of our OL.
Oh, it's a problem that ain't going away just because. I'm still stunned that Sarkisian watched the group in the spring and was like, "We're good."

At the end of the day, the foolishness of trying to save CArd's redshirt this season is over so there's a very real possibility that Sark will be more open to bringing in Card for a spell if Thompson is struggling.

I'll take your word on that.

I think there's simply a conversation about the subject of Card that no one wants to have.

Sark's actions would seem to indicate his confidence is so low in him that it's hard to wonder how you ever fully get that back.

If Casey was forced to miss more than one play, we could have seen a drive led by card. Part of me was definitely hoping we let Card have that drive and see what he could do. That’s not me saying I wanted Casey hurt. It could have provided a slim opportunity to jump start our offense though.

That is an assumption on your part.

You have no idea what conversations are taking place behind closed doors.

It' just takes some paying attention to see.

It's not out of place to wonder about the implications of it.

And Card got a lot of help from play calling, o line, receivers and defense against against Arky? You make no sense. Casey has been nothing short of disastrous in his last 10/12 quarters of football. And to use your favorite phrase, he was “shell shocked” after he threw that pick 6 Saturday. Even though he’s a senior, playing at home. I’m sure your sources have told you the real reason Casey is getting multiple opportunities despite playing terrible. Go back and get the full story of what went down the last week of August. It might make you report on the matter differently. Just saying. Again, thankfully Card is a class act.

His pocket presence is better, he’s got quicker twitch, and frankly he doesn’t look confused. Card doesn’t look like he has a good handle on the offense and what he is seeing on defense at this point. Does Casey miss throws and not see defenders….yes. When Casey’s on he’s better than Sam ever was and gives us our best chance to win, but he has his Spencer Sanders moments too
He looked pretty confused on Sat. I am not sure he could have played any worse.

Good. Because it needs to be addressed head on. Please be sure to discuss the process. Particularly what took place at the end of August when Hudson was named starter. Do a deep dive on Casey and his family’s response during that time. It will tell the fan base a lot for those wondering why Card is being treated differently. Good for Card for being a true class act.

For sure that was a misstep. And a bad one.
They didn't need someone to come in and be an All-American. The program would have improved if they had signed two players that are simply better than Tope Imade.

B/S - it is not the talent of the players or coaching. Something is rotten with the culture of the locker room and program at its core and has been for 12 years.

(Sell) It's a million things and not just one or two. It's all of those things and more. This isn't an uncomplicated rebuild.

Wrong. There are fundamental problems with the psyche of this program. 12 years of swings between mediocre and terrible has damaged the entire structure. They expect bad things to happen and to lose. THAT is hard to reverse.

When I look at this team I think we are
4OL, 2 pass rushers, 2 safeties, a corner, and a QB away from competing...(that's alot) .. Good thing is now with the portal you can go out and find a sophmore or junior who still has a couple years to develop...we need to BEG to be able to stay in the Big 12 at least another year.. but then wed start SEC play without bijan.... ughhh..
I cannot imagine what it would be like in the SEC next year with what TX has on the OL and DL. That would not be a pretty season.
