Ketch's 10 Thoughts From The Weekend (Future-casting Arch to Texas)

He was never going to wait until during or after the season. That was ridiculous to begin with. Elite QBs don't wait that long anymore. They get in a class and then they recruit for their class.
Yes, but most elite quarterbacks don't commit to schools that just endured the worst season in 60 years.

Based on what metrics? I’d have to strongly disagree

Well, based on all of the rankings and such that I've listened to and read over the last week.

This Podcast had Returns in the top 3 and Rises near the back end of the top 10.

If you google "Batman movies ranked", these are the first three examples that pop up.

This one has Rises 7th and Returns 4th

This one has Rises 8th and Returns 6th

This one has Rises 7th and Returns 2nd

the only person in these United States that doesn’t do the comic movies. ;)

Sometimes I really can’t agree or understand what it is these critics see in things….I liked the Nolan movies way more than Burton’s. However I can understand the case to be made with the original Batman with Jack Nicholson. Consider me shocked that people liked Batman Returns that much

From the articles:

Why It’s 4th: The final Tim Burton Batman is a bit like the final Christopher Nolan Batman: Strange, funky, and difficult. It applied a more-is-more approach to Burton’s first Batman — more villains, more darkness, more gothic architecture, and more poignant melodrama, with Keaton’s Bruce Wayne, DeVito’s Penguin, and Pfeiffer’s Catwoman portrayed as three inextricably linked wayward souls, each broken by circumstance and searching for personal peace and acceptance. It has a reputation as a peculiar film, and by the standards of a blockbuster it is, but it is also extremely watchable, thanks in large part to an underrated Keaton performance and an accurately rated Pfeiffer performance as one of the most complex female characters in any superhero film. That this Catwoman never got her own solo movie and Halle Berry's did is one of the great tragedies in Hollywood history.

From another:

"Fresh from their success with 1989's Batman, the partnership of Tim Burton and Michael Keaton returned with an added confidence for the sequel, driving Batman Returns to surpass its predecessor in every way. Set during the Christmas season, Burton's gothic design influence was ramped up a few notches and the pairing of Danny DeVito as Penguin and Michelle Pfeiffer as Catwoman expertly filled the franchise's Nicholson-shaped gap. Batman Returns walks just the right side of sublime and ridiculous, but also boasts a more involved plot than the previous movie, adding further layers to Keaton's Batman along the way."

****

It's mostly a Burton + Keaton + Phifer ranking.

These threads are always a little weird.

@OSWALT appears to be liking any comment that is a mini-slam against me, yet he's been with me on this site for 20+ years. 🤷‍♂️

That's a shocking list.
Well, my list centers around Batman/Bruce as a character, which I find most compelling. The movies where Batman is just a cop or a vehicle for the bad guys, don't get ranked as high

These are the same people who say Temple of Doom is the best Indiana Jones movie. Faux film critics and wannabe film school graduates love to praise the 'dark' films simply because they're dark. The movie can be devoid of any type of message, joy, lesson, or purpose, and is simply dark and brooding and it'll get slobbered over for years. When I was in film school first day of class as a sophomore, we went around the room sharing our favorite movie. I was so annoyed after hearing 20 minutes of the other students go on and on about how their favorite movie is some obscure dark Italian flick from the 1930s that when it was my turn I said ARMAGEDDON. Batman Returns is a creepy, strange auteur movie about Penguin and Catwoman with Batman as basically a cameo. I have no doubt there are eccentric people out there who actually enjoy it, but a consensus among regular people? I doubt

Happy to see the Texas T&F team get a shoutout at the end. Was a little worried it was going to get ignored when I didn't see it early.

The emotions that I felt being there to watch in person and talking to all my old teammates after it were amazing. We have had some amazing teams in the past but never able to get over the hump at nationals.

I also want to echo a lot of the comments from the track fans and thank @Ketchum for the hiring of @Serenity Douglas! She has been amazing and I nearly made her video of the team cheering as my old equipment manager, now Assistant AD and Texas Relays Meet Director, came over to say hi at the railing. Can't wait to see the additional coverage this outdoor season and where the team can go with Coach Flo!

For a brief spell, I was the SID for cross country right before Bubba was hired.

It's been a long road for the men's program to reach such a level.

They definitely earned that section all to themselves.

crazy talk
Whaaaaaaaa

Are you serious? Catwoman in The Batman was designed in a lab to be the ultimate construction of 2020 world pity. She was exactly 0% a fun character. Now go watch just the first 3 minutes of Catwoman in TDKR and see how enjoyable she is to watch. Nolan did it twice. First, he took Ledger which everyone thought would be awful as Joker and made him into a masterpiece. Then he did it again with Anne Hathaway the Princess Diary and made her an absolute thrill to watch as Catwoman

"Failing to win a couple of times in the Tournament won't be an indictment of the future of the program under Beard, but it will mean his first season in Austin did produce less than Smart's final season."

I hope you're not saying it will take wins over VT & Purdue to overcome losing to ASU in the 1st round.

I like Anne Hathaway, but she's not Michele Phiffer in that role.

Last year's team won the Big 12 Tournament and won games on the road in Lawrence (by 25), Morgantown, Ames snd Norman. Plus a win over North Carolina to win the Maui Invitational.

It was simply a better team and had a better season...up until now.

Beard has a chance to wipe all of that away with success in a single weekend.

I agree, but the tvrd Shaka laid in the tournament puts a lot of tarnish on the season.
I would have loved to see what Beard would have done with last year's roster.

Without Tournament success, this ends up being a slightly lesser season than the one that proceeded it. That's the only point I was making.

The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises are 1 and 2 and it’s not really close. I refuse to watch the Pattinson version for a good long while. It will most certainly be a free watch whenever it eventually happens. Terrible casting.
I thought The Batman was just okay. I'm in the minority but Christopher Nolan's dark series is like Godfather I and II. The Batman is more like Scarface - good movie but doesn't compare to the best.
