Ketch's 10 Thoughts From The Weekend (Great, good, bad, ugly... it's all here)

(Buy) Just prepare for the worst. As someone that already believes Big 12 officiating is the worst, I absolutely believe things can still go deeper into the pile of crap.
It's hard to see how things can get worse but unfortunately I think it's coming. Other than the bump of Charlie Strong by the ref, I think the roughing call on Bryce Young in the endzone was the worst call I have ever seen. Can't wait to get out of here.

Outside of a couple of interesting selections by ON3, there's a pretty strong consensus of the top difference makers in the state of Texas in this class and almost all of them seem destined to scatter in different directions. I'm not sure I've ever seen a year like this once since ... 1997? That's the last class before Mack Brown arrived on the scene and the top 10 that year looked like this:

1. WR Montrell Flowers (Signed with Texas)
2. RB Ben Gay (Signed with Baylor)
3. QB Chip Ambres (Signed with Texas A&M)
4. OL Antwau Kirk-Hughes (Signed with Texas)
5. DE Kevin Emanuel (Signed with FSU)
6. LB Mike Clay (Signed with Missouri)
7. LB Everick Rawks (Signed with Texas)
8. RB Leo Mills (Signed with Arizona)
9. LB Marcus Mosley (Signed with SMU)
10. DE Sean Phillips (Signed with UCLA)
That was actually the class that Mack Brown signed after two months on the job. The year was 1998.

I originally wrote 1997 and changed it to 1998. I forgot to change the wording. Thanks for catching that,

you, then, can be first to argue with me that aTm wins 9 games pre-bowl, as much as I despise saying that

I’m not getting the excitement for recruiting at this point in the cycle. Seems most of our realistic targets are 3 stars at this time.

Are we seeing manufactured hype?

Probably depends on who you are listening to.

3 top 10 dads
Viggo Mortensen, The Road
Bryan Mills (Liam Neeson), Taken
George Bailey, It’s a Wonderful Life

Bad dad
Mr. Curran, Jenny’s dad from Forest Gump
Good call on jenny's dad, although we never really see him.

I love It's a Wonderful Life, but George spent most of the movie being a shitty dad. and husband ;)

Maybe, but we’ll never forget the joy on his daughter’s face, while in this arms, when she tells him the angel got his wings.

I’m sure that’s all she’ll remember.

He also received serious consideration.
My 12 year old daughter loves the show, which means we are making our way through it. I mostly remember Urkle's antics from my childhood, but the show is really rich, and tackles some pretty significant themes. Carl and Harriet are both tremendous parents as written.

I figured we’d be doing better than that with the top 10. SEC, hype for next year, NIL…. What gives

True, but he literally tried to commit suicide, leaving that same daughter as an orphan.

Slim margins on this list. ;)

No doubt about. Sterling TV parents.

As it relates to the 2024 season, Texas fans need to recalibrate their brains

The thing that is scary about the 2024 schedule is that the Longhorns could be the best version that the program has delivered over the last 10 years and could still finish 8-4 or 7-5.

No kidding, it already feels unnatural to ever consider a team with 3 losses as playoff-ready...Recalibrating as we speak...

Strange year in the state to some degree (no true standout force) and the Longhorns haven't yet won under Sark.
