Ketch's 10 Thoughts From the Weekend (Great stuff, not so great stuff and Elmo shrugs...)

No. 10 – And Finally ...

I just wanted to take a moment to thank Dan Covert and his entire gang over at Covert Hutto.

Two weeks ago, my car was totaled in an accident (no injuries, thank goodness) and I couldn't possibly give a bigger personal endorsement when it comes to ease, consideration and comfort than the one I'd give Dan, Mark and the rest of the crew the helped me go through the entire process.

After stopping by on Thursday, I went home in a silver 2018 Expedition Platinum for an overnight test-drive and by Sunday morning, I was driving off the lot in a white 2018 Expedition Platinum.

When they didn't quite have the exact car I wanted, they simply went out and got the damn thing for me. I couldn't have asked for more in a car purchasing situation.

Be better. At parking. ;)

Bob Mcakay ought be way up the list, and I doubt if any one on your list would want to go one on one with McFaddin a second time in any of Coach Herman’s drills.

Agree with bill wyman and bob McKay. McKay is a close second to jerry Sizemore. Don’t forget Johnny treadwell.

Love the new car! Congratulations Ketch, and glad nobody was hurt in the accident.

Buy or SELL: If Kendall Milton wants to commit you take it and risk losing Zachary Evans.

(Sell) Personally, I'd encourage Milton to take all the time in the world. No need for a commitment at this point. I'm not doing anything to damage my situation with Evans, as I believe Texas is a heavy favorite.

100% disagree! If a 5* talent like Milton wants to commit, you take him.
And open up recruiting in CA even more.

Can someone allude to the roach suspension?
Lack of situational awareness was brought up in the article

As far as all time best OLs, Bob McKay is in the College Football Hall of Fame. He was better than everyone on the list except Sisemore. Not close as to the others. Dan Neil was a center, McKay was a dominant tackle. Also, while people remember him as a linebacker, Tommy Nobis was the best guard we ever had. Not a good list.

Thought you were going to do an analysis on the number of visits so far by top recruits and how that historically relates to eventual commitment/signing?

I like your new ride!
Lay off Coach Aston. She has done a lot more with less.
Solid program that was a cluster before her.
I just don't know what the bar is supposed to be. Better than the cluster before her doesn't seem like a high enough bar.

Nuance and timing matters.

You don't want to have a John Brantley situation, which costs you Ryan Mallett because of nothing more than timing.

That’s the level-headed statement today. If I recall that is a similar statement to last year IIRC... and not wrong. I have an inkling (using the addition by subtraction theory) that next year’s defense is going to be a step better, faster. While I have to say my opinion would be the same if thousands of OB’s were reading it, I just think there is going to be something in year 3 that takes the D next level. I think the talent level improves just enough to offset the experience deficit... and the middle has to anchor after Poona and Nelly stepped up... that will tell the tale.
Athletes are gonna be all over the field. Front seven has to stay healthy and emerge.

The last time Texas basketball was fun was December 12th, 2015. Everything since has been one step forward, two steps back.

Ketchum

I do NOT disagree with you much but this time I must speak.

This year is Coach Aston best year in coaching Texas. Do we forget how bad Texas WBB was before her?

I also get frustrated that she has NOT won a championship. But, this year injuries really hurt the team and chances to defeat B.

We have the best coach for this University for the wins and for her development of students ( not to mention her recruiting skills of both students and coaches)

Look out for next year.

Hook'Em.
I just find her program uninteresting and stuck in neutral.

I mean he's a UT grad that was a GA under Penders.

Why did you choose white for the car? Maybe I'm biased against white cars because that was the color of my Dad's Pinto and what the DC sniper was supposedly driving (turned out not to be accurate), but I'm not a fan. On the other hand, it does look like a good vehicle but for color.
It's clean.

Please never kiss a car dealer’s ass again. For every known owner of a prosperous website with thousands of readers that gets special treatment, there’s a single mother that’s been given the run around. It looks like an advertisement, which smells of quid pro quo, even if it isn’t.
It was big part of my weekend and it was made in part because of the work of one of our partners.

The sponsor of the article and one of our biggest partners impacted my life in a very positive way.

Yes, that's an advertisement.

Was under serious consideration.

Look at the top of the column. The dealership is advertising within the column. It's not a surprise that it would be an advertisement. I imagine he got a pretty good deal and is pushing their business on top of their monthly support. Not a surprise.

Your failure to include Bill Wyman on your list of top ten UT linemen reveals a lack of historical perspective and knowledge that defies belief. You should watch his old tape and see what greatness looks like.
It was tough sledding for that 10th spot. Lots of All-Americans and great players to pick from.

p.s. A huge portion of the list if comprised of players that played before I was born, which would seem to indicate some fair amount of historical perspective.

@Ketchum why don't we want the Milton commitment ASAP? As @Suchomel posted in his write-up on Evans, Evans would like to play with Milton, so it could be a plus for getting Evans.
I just wouldn't do anything that would potentially cause a problem in the recruitment. He's everything to this class.

Mike Baab deserves a spot in that top 10, just saying

I remember when he played I heard he could do full splits, like the female cheerleaders do. Not many OL have that kind of flexibility to go along with strength.

Raised in Euless, Texas, he graduated from Trinity High School in 1978. Consensus All-State and All-American honors came his senior year of 1978. While attending the University of Texas at Austin from 1978–1981, Mike was voted team captain by his Longhorn teammates. He received All-Southwest Conference and second team All-American honors in 1981. He was named to the Pepsi All-Time High School Team and he was inducted into the Texas Hall of Honor in 2008.

He played for the Browns from 1982 to 1987, the New England Patriots in 1988 and 1989, the Browns again in 1990 and 1991, and finished his career with the Kansas City Chiefs in 1992.

After retiring from football, Baab moved to the Scottish Highland Games for competition. He won the Masters World Championship in the 45-49 age class in 2005.

I agree with you @depock.
