Ketch's 10 Thoughts From The Weekend (Ketchstradamus makes his return!)

Iowa State was 2-22 last year and is now in the Sweet 16. That’s what real improvement looks like.
You try way too hard. Had we drawn Wisconsin as our 3, we would be headed to the sweet 16 as well. We drew perhaps the worst personnel matchup we could draw. And we advance if there’s not a 33 FT discrepancy.

The tourney is all about matchups and always has been.

3. Christian Jones emerges as a hot name along the offensive line and all of you will roll your eyes when it's reported.

Hear me out on Jones. For all of the things that Jones hasn't yet been in his career (namely a truly plus-player), he's a guy that has started the last 22 games at tackle, 13 of which have been at left tackle. Last year probably should have been the moment the light switch flipped on if it is ever going to flip on, but going through a coaching staff/scheme/terminology change might have stunted his growth. Maybe this is the year it happens. Considering the lack of quality and depth Texas has coming off the edge, it's quite possible that Jones will have one of the best camps of anyone on the team.

Good luck with that. He's simply not tackle material it seems. Been down too many times in recent years with OL.

5. The light switch won't completely flip on for J'Tavian Sanders

The battle at tight end is such that there are legitimately four or five players that could contribute to the offense in 2022, which means that the battle for playing time will sneakily be as intense as any position not named running back. I'm expecting Sanders to take a step forward this spring, but perhaps not such a large one that it will satisfy the hunger fans have for him.

JMO, but I don't find TE to be the most difficult of positions. In Sanders defense, personally I'm just waiting for him to move to DE but if he does emerge as TE then great, it's found money. Can't help but think about him falling not behind one, but TWO other TEs in the same incoming class last season.

1. Quinn Ewers doesn't boat-race Hudson Card right out of the gate.

Regardless if he does or nor doesn't, I'm fully prepared for the next 5 months of coachspeak of "they both had good days today," "they both did some good and bad things today," "the job is wide open," "we aren't close to naming a starter," blah blah blah.

On your first point re: Quinn, his only semester at a clearly superior program is what’s going to elevate him past Card quickly.

6. Justice Finkley is getting snaps with the first-team by the end of the first week.

Maybe I should say ... first day? I literally can't tell you why he shouldn't at this point.

Regardless, it's simply a matter of time.

This team was top 5 and a trendy final four pick when the season started. Either Beard did a poor job evaluating the transfer talent or a poor job putting them together.

Meanwhile Iowa State is in the Sweet 16 - after going 2-22 and 0-18 in conference last year. TCU was 12-14 last year. They are in OT for the Sweet 16.

This isnt a successful season unless you are treating Beard like he’s Shaka Smart.
I hate this excuse but the man didn’t have a ton left to him and really had to work the portal hard. There were some lessons learned all around but I think he was successful at saving us from an otherwise awful season.

(Buy) There's a part of me that wants to say no out of respect to someone like Clarissa Davis, but 1986 was a long time ago. The women's program has needed that Ford-level pied piper that can be the face of the program, the leader on the floor and a total bad-ass that can elevate the program from the land of the very good to the mountaintop that the elite reside on. She's the chosen one.

JMO, but I don't think that question was asked in the context of "best player in history" but simply a particular coach's proverbial "straw that stirs the drink."

To put it in perspective, I would rather watch a Miley Cyrus concert on a continual loop than watch Power of the Dog (‘s breakfast) again. Woof..

(Buy) I probably need you to define competitive because of its extreme subjectiveness, but I think it's close for two quarters.

JMO, but close for two quarters isn't competitive. FWIW, I don't think it's competitive for more than 15 minutes. Bama's history is they destroy opponents in these types of early season OOC games under Saban.

The tournament is about shot making. Texas doesn't have enough.

I haven't completely been able to wrap my head around how non-impactful he's been.

I wasn't thinking of it as best player in history.

Oh stop. It's a beautiful movie from a cinematography standpoint at the very least.

and destruction may very well happen

He's not tackle material, but yet he's started 22 games at tackle.

The first part is all that matters. I think we know the second part is damn near all due to lack of options.

I was going to disagree with your buy until I read you said “baby buy”, but even then, this team had a blah season (with horrible offense) for the transfers he brought him.
One and done after all the “March” comments he made doesn’t seem good enough.
It's not good enough, couldn't agree more. But it is progress. We won the first game, and somehow threatened to make the Sweet 16 against a much better team so I'll give Beard that.

But now he has to start from almost scratch for next season and the bar is already set at Sweet 16 or higher so he needs to get to work.

I will say that if DD had been healthy enough to play 25 minutes a game all year, this would have been a better team.
