Ketch's 10 Thoughts From the Weekend (Nipping this weekend's hypocrisy in the bud...)

I thought that Mccoy got most of the o line from the 2005 team his freshman year and that helped him tremendously

Then they were gone his sophomore year and that is when he struggled
Yup, that's part of what happened.

Agree. He's a damn good college QB but i don't see him as pro. He's not an elite passer and he sure is not an elite runner.

I love the guy a as a UT QB, but i don't see him anywhere in the NFL.
Chase Daniel has made a career out of being exactly that kind of player.

A 5-9 just went No.1 overall.

I think the 2019 D-Line as a whole can, and will, be as good as the 2018 D-Line.

It hasn't been proven yet, but that too has been the case the past couple years. I think the D-Line as a whole will be improved, particularly at one of the three positions.

Also think the TE position as a group has more potential, we'll see if they fulfill it.

Agree pretty much with the rest of your assessment.

Hook'em Horns!
There's just very little reason to believe in the 2019 group IMO.

Regarding OU's offensive line. What is their secret? Recruiting more talented players than we are, coaching?

Up until we got Hand, I would say the latter. Granted, our OL recruiting was spotty in some recent years. But going forward I'm feeling pretty good about our OL getting back to an assembly line of quality college o-linemen.

No. 9 - The List: Top 10 Stevie Nicks songs...

With the latest Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductions ceremony having aired over the weekend, I thought I would dedicate this week's list to an artist almost everyone loves... Stevie Nicks.

10. After the Glitter Fades
9. Stand Back

8. Talk to Me
7. Gold Dust Woman
6. Landslide

5. Gypsy
4. Leather and Lace
3. Rhiannon
2. Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around
1. Edge of Seventeen

Assuming Dreams (your admitted oversight is replacing a solo effort) you have 5 of her top 10 being Mac songs. Two others are duets (#1 & #4). don't get me wrong, I like Stevie Nicks. But I'm not real sure her solo material is really HOF-worthy.

I get that LJH may not want to hang in school another year but if you think he was playing for free now as an UDFA hell be having to pay for his own rent, food, insurance and personal equipment. And, nothing to fall back on in the likelihood he gets cut. All that college stuff he got in exchange for playing football I had to work throwing bags on airplanes 30 hours per week and live at home to personally pay for. I assure you, he got paid.
LJH didn't get paid. In fact, he's in debt.

1. According to The Advocate, Humphrey didn't get a signing bonus as an undrafted free agent:

List will be updated as more names are confirmed.

Kenny Bigelow, DT, West Virginia
Carl Granderson, DE, Wyoming ($15k signing bonus, $70K base salary guaranteed, per source)
Ethan Greenidge, OT, Villanova
Chase Hansen, LB, Utah
Deonte Harris, Assumption, WR
Darnell Holland, RB, Kennesaw State
Corbin Kaufusi, DE, BYU
Lil' Jordan Humphrey, WR, Texas
Derrick Kelly, OT, Florida State ($2K signing bonus, per source)
Nick Moore, LS, Georgia ($5K signing bonus, $10 K base salary guaranteed, per source)
Divine Ozigbo, RB, Nebraska
Jake Powell, TE, Monmouth ($1K signing bonus, per source)
Shy Tuttle, DL, Tennessee

Even if he did get a bonus and it wasn't listed, as you can see, only one person really gets paid as an UDFA.

2. He still owes his agent for any loans that were given to him. He also owes the people who trained him prior to the draft (strength coach, speed coach, etc.). That cost is usually between $15,000 and $25,000. If he rented a place while training, he owes that money, too.

3. If he makes the practice squad, he'll earn about $130,000 this year. Take away taxes, his agent's 3 percent fee, and repaying any debt accrued during training, loan to buy a car, etc, and the only way to get ahead is by hopefully making the 53-man roster to make $495,000 a year. In the meantime, he has to rent a place month-to-month because he can get cut any any moment. He'll likely need to have roommates.

If all goes well and he avoids an injury, LJH has the potential to get paid.

For now, he will earn $235 per week (before taxes) during offseason workouts.

Ouch! I wish him the best of luck, always want Longhorns to succeed but this is indeed a cautionary tale.

The jury is out on linebacker, but the Longhorns aren't replacing anyone at those positions that any judger of NFL talent believed was worth selecting in seven full rounds.

FIFY.

Actually, he did get paid. He just spent more than he made....just like 80% of America.

That wasn't the argument.
The argument was that he was "working for free" at UT.
Some say yes, some say no.
I personally think he was well compensated on scholarship at UT.
I get you.

If we're strictly discussing a business decision, right now, it wasn't a good one. Hopefully, things work out for him.

Damn, those are some cold hard numbers that need to be explained to these guys that come out early. Yikes.

As much as I like the kid, Jalen Hurts simply can't throw the ball well enough to really excel in Lincoln Riley's offense.

No way Sam leaves early. He's smart, well-advised, values a degree from Texas, and should have a thorough understanding of how few men actually make it as a QB in the NFL, regardless of how successful they were in college. Plenty of recent examples, a coupla Old School guys are Bret Stafford and Peter Gardere.

ill give one exception to the not drafted but clearly valued list Holton Hill, although he had more baggage than usual. the staff can point to univ of Houston players drafted as far as development.

I think we are about to see a big improvement in our draft status going forward

There must be a lot of debts written off in that business

yeah i suppose he owes money for his combine prep workouts, but does he really? Doesnt seem like he attended any workouts based on his performance, and whatever agent talked him into coming out early should be eating the cost anyway.

Seems like getting his degree is pretty important if he doesn't make it in the NFL which I assume is about 35% at best right now.
