Ketch's 10 Thoughts From The Weekend (Nothing but good vibes)

Ketch...Could the reason Sark and his staff do so well outside of Texas in recruiting instead of inside Texas be that he and his staff have not been in Texas for a considerable length of time? (I do not know the career of most of his assistants, but I think, many do not have a lot of history in Texas with Texas HS coaches.) And if the first question is correct, do you see his in-state recruiting ability changing the longer he is at UT, especially if he continues to be successful? Or is there something about Sark and/or the UT culture that is not understood or embraced by Texas HS coaches currently?

They never pushed for Bussey, Wesco, Davis or Smith lol. That leaves 4.

Either way, you just proved my point. Sark and co recruit differentl and it’s worked to this point. They don’t “Need” to recruit Texas better

Tell yourself what you need to in order to sleep, I guess.

Herman was fired because of his unadulterated arrogance and inability to relate with the people that mattered. His opinion of himself was the base of his undoing
That's certainly part of it.

Ketch, I shared this same thought with you last year. National Championships in any of our sports are really important. The Texas One Fund thought it important enough to send me an email about it last night. Even just a short acknowledgment at the top of your article with more details further down would be good. It’s just disrespectful not to give these ladies a top billing. I know this is a football centric site, but we talk plenty about men’s basketball, baseball, etc. all the time. We owe the same to the ladies.

Rather than discuss what I wrote, you're discussing where I slotted it?

I don't view the order of the column as significant. I do my lists in the last spot and that''s some folk's favorite part.

Pm topp of that, I've had a section for volleyball in my column all season, even when they were struggling or didn't have games on the weekend. I've showed them more respect than anyone in the industry all season. I don't remember you commenting on the sport during that time.

I think there's not one single reason that has caused the current situation. If there was, it would be easier to discuss as a topic.

Herman was fired because he sucks.
A big part of sux = not recruiting worth a shit.

You are telling me a coach was fired cause of arrogance and an inflated ego ………. Uhhhh news flash - have you ever met an extremely successful coach ???

Herman was fired in large part because he had no relationship with his team. He led with intimidation and lost the locker room. Add that to recruiting trailing off and his fractured relationship with the BMD base, and it was over.

Thanks for all the great insight! You wrote Xavier Filsaime signs on NSD at 3:00 PM, did you mean Early Signing period? if yes, which day (12/20-22)?

That's a really incomplete look at the scenario. It really doesn't discuss the nuance of what happened.

Wait…is there concern about Baker and NE football? Guess I missed that one.

ome guys have elite talent. Some guys are great players. Some guys are winners and have all of the intangibles. Some guys show up for big games. Some guys are great dudes. Simmons is all of these things.

Pretty funny seeing people on this board downplaying his ability in real time on Saturday.

(Buy) I'm picking the Longhorns to win this game, partly because I think Ewers is going to have a monster game.

If that happens, this board should prepare for the ensuing discussion.

(Sell) Although I've heard nothing roughly official on the mater, I'm expecting him to go pro based on what I've heard from NFL Draft people who believe the injury won't hurt his stock much. On top of that, it's unclear when he'll be 100 percent for the 2024 season, so the smart money for the 2024 Longhorns is CJ Baxter.

You know my stance on this from the jump

Ok, but they offered almost all of the kids in the top 20 that they didn't land.
Out of the players in the top 20. Who do you feel we will regret not getting over the next 3-4 years from the 2024 class if any? For me its Justin Williams only because its a position of NEED and Terry Bussey I think he would have been special in Burnt Orange.

In 2021 we landed 2 out of the top 25
in 2022 we landed 7 out of the top 25
in 2023 we landed 6 out of the top 25
in 2024 we are at 3 out of the top 25 (4 if we land Xavier Filsaime)

What do you think are the biggest reasons for the in state recruiting misses? We know this staff can clearly recruit but there seems to be a disconnect with some of the states top talent to want to come here. I do believe though getting Anthony Hill and Colin Simmons are can't miss players they are worth 3 to 4 players each.

But to land IMG kids is a big deal I remember back in the day we wouldn't get any of those kids, the Pipeline to Mater Dei is nice to. Just need to get that pipeline to North Shore, Desoto, and Duncanville locked down.

I think Durham is the one we “regret” not going hard after. Not sure what the big deal is about IMG kids.

(Sell) Personally, I still prefer the 2023 class to the 2024 class.

Ketch...Is that before or after we finish with Filsaime and the rest of our atleast Top 3 Class?
the 2023 class has the QB of the future with Manning that 2024 just doesn't have the same way 2025 with Lacey is the QB of the future. When you hit with you QB that class just matters more.

I don't think dominating the state is important or realistic with NIL. Things are changed so just looking at the states top players and expecting us to land all those kids won't be realistic anymore if you're being honest. That metric stopped being important and using old metrics in a new world of recruiting probably won't ever matter beyond just something to discuss.
