Ketch's 10 Thoughts From the Weekend (Nothing has changed...)

Ketch apparently can't see that our defense, which has leaked like a sieve, held an opponent that had averaged 40 points a game in Big 12 play, to just 3 points. (Iowa State's other 3 points were courtesy of a red-zone TO by our offense.) The Texas defenders even tossed in a goal-line stand at the end of the game for good measure. If we can play defense like that with some consistency, we're capable of beating anyone left on our schedule.

This weekend, I had a chance to talk with Fenves, Powers and a bunch of donors. It was obvious that they see us at 3-3 with half the season yet to play. They also see huge risks in making a coaching change other than just the monetary costs. They like Strong personally, and really want him to succeed. He's going to get every benefit of the doubt, and is probably going to be back unless the team implodes in the next 6 games.

On another note, as Nuufaola posted on another thread, every single person I talked to about Perrin categorically refuted what Anwar was told. The bureaucrat Anwar got his story from was badly misinformed about Perrin and his respective input with Strong and Fenves.
Iowa state sucks. It was one game. If Texas does this against the top 4 offenses in the big 12 I'll be impressed but beating isu doesn't mean jack. I'd give charlie about 5% chance to win 6 of 7. Some upcoming teams Could easily shred this defense.

Pretty much every outlet out there is reporting charlie needs to finish very well to keep his job. Even inside Texas who has been big fans of Charlie thinks he's in serious trouble. At least Two others also agree on 8 games as being the minimum. Virtually every other respected insider here thinks charlie has to win to come back. Even @nuufaola has said this

Anything less than 8 games and he should be fired. Coming back with 6/7 wins would be a joke.

A few posters came into this thread to shit on ketch and stir things up. He's a lot nicer than I would have been
I get that and those guys should be sent to Siberia for a week. It says plenty about the people attacking Ketch for stupid crap really. But he is still accountable for his actions. I enjoy the guy's content and 24/7 input but he does let his ego shine through often when attacked. He can get his point across in a better way, I believe.

Damn, Ketch. Your columns are getting increasingly negative. None of us are happy about the way the season is going, but this seems worse than normal from you. I'm not saying you should blow sunshine up our ass or anything, but this column seemed to have a more bitter tone than after some of our losses.

The negativity on this site is nauseating. Try attending a game and see that tens of thousands of Longhorn fans are behind their team and rooting for the coach. Go tell the players that are playing their hearts out that they have a lot of ugly football left in them.
Iowa State led 6-3 at halftime the other night. That was ugly football.

The negativity is just the discussion of reality.

@Ketchum Speaking of Major League movie references, has the head football coach gig gone the way of being the Indians manager:

Charlie Donovan (AD Perrin): How would you like to manage the Indians this year?
Lou Brown (Fill in the blank coach): Gee, I don't know ....
Charlie Donovan (AD Perrin): What do you mean, you don't know? This is your chance to manage in the big leagues.
Lou Brown (Fill in the blank coach): Let me get back to you, will ya, Charlie? I got a guy on the other line asking about some white walls.

Is this really what it's come to?

Hard to ignore the obvious. Strong has a long way to go to erase what's happened in almost 3 years. I'm an optimist by nature and even I think the calls for positivity at 3-3 seem ridiculous

It is the manner in the way you respond that bugs me. Many a times, you assert yourself as the best - that is ego amigo. And I have seen comments that very much appear to belittle your own staff. How much or little you pay Anwar is out of bounds for me. Anwar had to cringe at reading that. Be better. Proof points of how your ego has entered into the commentary.
You ignore all context in all of those replies, while also ignoring that many of the things that I was pointing out in my defense of what was being alleged and challenged.

Meanwhile, you ignored all context on the Anwar comment as well, which was me simply saying that I make sure game-coverage from the stadium is covered.

I'd suggest you join me in being better. I feel like you've got just as far to go as you believe I do.

Optics are a mf.

If the program is going to be held hostage over optics, it will quiet the potential noise from the outside (and help with a certain legal case), but the internal corrosion that will ensue if Strong is retained will cause the fan base to fracture worse than at any point in modern history. Rock and a hard place for Fenves and Perrin.

a. The defense played well. I raved about a number of players after the game.

b. I agree and have reported their apprehension, but it won't take a full implosion, as there's already been some of that.

c. The bureaucrat is one of the highest ranking officials in the administration.

what part was bitter?

Fenves' dilemma is that he has a math professor who can't count.....
Waiting until the prof learns to count is the analog.
Hobson's choice?

I don't think I ignored any of the context but I apologize if you think I did. That said, you didn't have to make mention of Anwar's salary to get the point across that each member of the team plays a role. Anwar attends the games and you monitor the site while working on your post-game analysis. I could give 2 shits where you choose to do this BTW. But my point is you could make the same point without playing the salary card. I just think it was tasteless, not needed, and a number of other things that may have embarrassed Anwar whether he will admit to it or not.

As far as the rest of the comments in this thread that I picked on, I will just relent to your response. I am always trying to better myself as a human being. Am I always getting better, no, but I am striving for being better. If I can improve in an area, I will take suggestions all day long as I am taking yours. Completely fair for you to challenge me as I challenged your to be better. All I ask as closing comment on this topic is that you consider not making claims that you are the best in the industry and/or comments that can appear to belittle/undermine your staff. Let others talk about how great you are and be respectful of the team you have. FWIW, this is the only site I am a "part" of and you are the main reason why. That should be all you need to know about where I sit on that issue of who the best is. Carry on to more important business.

a. I don't feel like I played the "salary card". I didn't even know there was such a thing. I made mention of his pay as a show of commitment the site has to the very thing he is suggesting we needed to covet (in-stadium and in-person game coverage). If in doing so, I played the "salary card", I apologize. Probably a misplaced comment on my part. I didn't consider that it would come off as playing the "salary card".
b. It's strange to think I'm bickering with someone who shares similar life ideologies. That doesn't happen very often. I think we'd probably converse better in person than in this format.
c. I will work on my Trump ego. Those that don't really smile at the thought of me are really, really, really bothered by it and I don't need them fueling up on really, really, reallys.

c. The bureaucrat is one of the highest ranking officials in the administration.

The separate and consistent reactions I got from several bona fide Level 1 guys was that Anwar's source was inaccurate both about Perrin and about the AD's role at UT.

You guys might want to be a little more cautious the next time you post an inflammatory story like that. You and Anwar don't have to try so hard to be flamboyant. Just post solid, thoughtfully considered stories. As a long-time subscriber, I'd rather you not enter a post if you don't have something solid to say.

No doubt. He can't do it from the couch for starters.
There are many perks of my job, that is sometimes one of them. However... just for the record... I work from my desk in my office with complete disconnect from the rest of the world. At least that's my goal.

I believe that's exactly what we did. We provided a ton of context so that it would be understood to be a single view from a single high-level person in the school admin/system. It was exactly the kind of info we're supposed to provide as an insider website. What we provided was a look into one side of thought at the top of the school that you wouldn't get anywhere else.

This thread looks like a news team getting into a free for all argument but forgetting they are 'Live at 6' and playing it out in front of the whole city.

Can we go back to our regularly scheduled programming now and stop going at each other? This is not a good direction.

I didn't like the way the article was presented and it's just a single source but I don't think orangebloods made it up. If it's as high as they say it is then someone really is putting that crap out there. I suspect it was smokescreen or agenda pushing but I don't think the source was a fake

I thought the agenda was easy to spot. He/she wants Perrin gone. That was my third-party read of it.

I didn't have a movie reference at hand so I went with plain ol metaphor. I know, it really just doesn't meet the standard. Did my best. :p
I've been in those newsroom showdowns. We once had our 5pm anchors who were sleeping together get it into it while a touring group of girl scouts walked into the studio.
