Ketch's 10 Thoughts From The Weekend (There Will Be Blood)

... Shiner's Dalton Brooks is one hell of a high school player, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't have concerns about his ability to make a clean transition from his current level of play to the major college scene.

Based on …?

@Ketchum I have a decent idea of what a super blue chip and a near super is but ylcould you help me out a little. Skip the stars since we know not all 4 stars are create equal. Using the Rivals number is that a 5.9+ and with some of the other systems a 93+ and roughly what position does than translate to top 70? 90? 100?

This was one of my favorite writeups you've done this week.

Would you and @Suchomel be willing to take a rwcruit gun to the head and project where you think remaining uncommitted top 50 LSR kids land.

Cheers.

I'm tweaking my own personal rankings system to reflect things more accurately. Still working through the principles.

As of today...

1. Hicks (OU)
3. Toviano (A&M)
7. Shelby (not sure... gun to my head... Texas)
13. hale (Texas)
15. vasek (OU)
16. Shanahan (A&M)
19. Deal (OU/USC)
21. Gullette (Texas)
23. Renaud (OU)
27. harrison-Pilot (TCU)

Arguably the most important defensive prospect of the entire cycle for the Longhorns, Hill is the kind of prospect that could walk into Austin as a starter from day one and change the entire look of that side of the ball for Texas.

Any concerns about his jawline or lack thereof?

@Ketchum missing on Perkins last year and Hill this year is a tough blow to an already thin LB room. Same with DL targets. I fear that when we get to the SEC we will be built more along the lines of 2021 Ole Miss. does a moderate improvement in defense this year change the narrative with recruits or will the D need to be lights out to catch the attention of the elite targets? NGL, kinda miss Chris Ash….
It's an issue that isn't just going to go away. It hasn't happened overnight for the Aggies.

We have real challenges with D recruiting unless we make substantial improvement in 2022.

We made two really positive hires on offense in the off season and I am frankly surprised that we did not do the same on defense as well.

It was a mistake we are seemingly paying for now on the trail.

Well, I choose to be very happy with our recruiting, I’m enjoying the off season.

NIL and the portal has kinda lessened commitment announcements imho, but I’m no recruiting nerd.

Hill, whatever, I don’t think the sky is falling.

But Ketch and Such, I enjoy all of the recruiting info and speculation, y’all are the best.

Unprecedented times for sure.
Thanks for the kind words!

Good write up. Hill to aggy hurts but I do feel Texas lost out mainly because the product on the field has been so bad on that side of the ball. Win 10 games and prove everyone wrong. Do that recruiting in the defensive ball will start closing on these big targets.
You have to have a story that kids want to buy. The Texas defense right now doesn't truly have that.

Plus, A&M was very, very committed to making sure it landed Hill. BY any means.

I have always felt that Texas has the deepest pockets...we would over pay to get Hill...to start real momentum on the defensive side...I was diffently wrong...
Texas is very open about being in a place where NIL deals will be available after they sign, but prospects have to get to campus first.

It's not like that everywhere else.
