Ketch's 10 Thoughts From The Weekend (An Arch commit in the distance?)

This DKR quote always looks good on paper but is not true in real life. I coached high school football for 25 years in Texas. 15 years as a Defensive Coordinator at the 4A and 5A level (when 5A was the largest classification). Had several players that were not very aggressive as young players but who matured and became great players. Had a Freshman one time that was so timid we tried to get him to give up football because we were afraid he was going to get hurt. He stayed with football, worked hard, and became a first team All-State Defensive Back as a senior. He went on to play college football and had a cup of coffee in the NFL. He is now a college asst. coach. He definitely would not bite as a pup but would knock your d*ck in the dirt as a senior.
bingo. thanks for sharing.

LOL. You’re comparing freshman in HS to a 19/20 year old. One of the dumber posts I’ve seen in a while.
Do you need other examples to show you that the expression doesn't always hold water?

I think the reason we are down on Card is that he played scared. You can't do that as a quarterback. Granted our line sucked. He needs to prove he's worthy. And tough.
Lots of dudes played scared that night. None have been remotely judged as harshly, including their coach, who waited way too long to make a switch.

How could you leave Personal Best with Mariel Hemingway off that list? An excellent movie about a woman athlete released at a point in time when women's athletics were just starting to gain recognition.
Never heard of it. Sorry. Didn't mean to slight anyone.

I suppose that wasn’t clear enough... False hope propaganda about Manning playing football at the University of Texas.

It doesn’t seem probable considering the history of this program for the last 13 years and the other factors involved but we shall see. I’ll be thrilled if it happens.
Hey, I think we all feel that.

I can’t “like” this comment enough. Nobody is talking enough about if our OLine will even be improved next year much less good enough.
It was an epic recruiting class for OL but damn few OLineman can contribute their freshman year.
I disagree. We're definitely talking about it. Pretty much every day.

Uhh, Million Dollar Baby #5 on that list????

I'm officially done wasting my time reading your takes on films. That movie may very well be the best sports film ever made, let alone best women's sports movie.
No one really rates it that high.

When was the last time you actually watched it?

I'd also go back in time, and add in Pride of the Yankees, with Gary Cooper as Lou Gehrig. Very moving and well done.
Interesting that you called me out for a typo, but apparently comprehension otherwise lacked.

Probably so, but as a big time #girldad I don't know either. Probably mostly that I just don't get the chance to watch many movies. I do want to see King Richard and a few others on your list, but I don't think there is much in this world that could entice me to sit through bring it on 🙂
You've never see Bring It On?

Lol @Ketchum With your analysis of Havens softball prowess you are well on your way of being a great sports dad. “Even batting at bottom of order”. SHOTS FIRED!!!
Enjoy the ride.
I wouldn't say she's very good at all, but some of the girls ahead of her in the line-up can't even hit the ball and Haven definitely mashes the ball better than anyone her team.

She's Adam Dunn-like.

No apologies necessary and no slights given.

When you get a chance, check out Personal Best. A first-rate movie whose story is built around a female athlete.

And Mariel Hemingway has one of the greatest pair of legs to ever grace a movie screen.

The one when he was 3 of 5 for 52 yards, a touchdown pass and the interception?
I'm a Card fan, but this is a bit disingenuous.

This is how you described things 24 hours after the game:

"...I understand Sarkisian wanting to get Hudson Card some playing time on the third series of the game, but I'm not sure I understand sticking with Card after his fumble helped put the Longhorns behind by two touchdowns with a couple of minutes left in the half. It felt critical at that moment that the Longhorns go back to Thompson, who had thrown a touchdown pass in his last possession of play, for such a critical moment in the game. Waiting to do so until after Card threw a horrible pick-six to put the Longhorns down by 21 was a coaching decision gone bad that eventually proved to be one of the defining moments of the night.

... It was hard not to think of the first half of the 2011 BYU game when Card threw the pick-six. That was the moment when you wondered if there was any coming back for Garrett Gilbert and I kind of felt that way about Card last night."

My comment had more to do with the fact that he was a but player on a night when Kansas scored 50+ points.

🤷‍♂️

Never heard of it until your post. I love Tracy and Hepburn. I'll check it out.
Pat and Mike is one of Hepburn and Tracy's best movies. It was Chuck Connor's first movie (in a minor role). Also Charles Bronson in a hilarious bit as a thug (Hepburn outwits him). Lots of old time athletes have cameos, like Don Budge (tennis, multiple Wimbledons and US open wins), Helen Dettweiler (founded the Women's Professional Golf Association), Alice Marble (18 Grand Slam tennis titles, including 2 Wimbledon and 4 US Open), and Gussie Moran (famous as Gorgeous Gussie, she was kicked out of Wimbledon for not wearing completely all white tennis outfits).

How is this one not more widely known?

Arkansas wasn't the only low moment for Card last year. He gave up back to back turnovers leading to 14 free points for Kansas that probably was one of the key reasons for one of the most embarrassing losses in program history. If I'm Sark, at some point I have to start looking into Plan B when Plan A keeps leading to moments that impact my job security.

Good to hear. Being able to make contact at that age definitely puts her ahead of the curve by a large margin.

That's not quite the point.
