Ketch's 10 Thoughts From The Weekend (Beyond the point of no return...)

Pretty foolish to think a bunch of money will overpower family/health. Agree you swing for the fence with Urban but you have to be ready for how to proceed when he turns it down. "sorting through options" does not sound good

CDC seems to have some real fear of making a bad hire and the optics of hiring someone like James Franklin after the year he's had.. I was told today that he's not alone.
They should be scared. If we are willing to put up $10 million x 5 for Meyer why not take the same money and take the best the money can buy? It is more than all but 5 NFL coaches make. Why pay $7 million to dip into a second tier talent pool?

I think CDC has been as big of a failure this season as his football coach... maybe bigger.
How? I know you blame him for the eyes, but I think he has handled this Herman mess quite well, including gathering support to be able to swing for the absolute fences.

Shame on you for writing this and stirring the pot. This program needs continuity, not more division after the last six months. If Urban is out, we should support who we have.

This program needs more winning and less continuity of losing.

He left a coach that he now plans to bring back for a potential lame duck season completely hanging out to dry for the last eight weeks.

That works if you get Urban.

It makes you look like an absolute ****up if you don't.

P.s. I don't know that I blame him for The Eyes.

That's no more fair than blaming Herman.

It's a complicated situation and what I believe is that the responsibility was shared by multiple people and that multiple people made really poor miscalculations, especially in the way of communication.

I don't think he plans to bring back Herman.

At this point, yes. It can change, but they are telling everyone that will listen that there's no Plan B.

So this isn't a trial balloon? It's really their plan, for real?

@Ketchum is there any read on the reaction by the $ folks CDC took along for the ride?

About that Houston contingent that was pissed off earlier in the year, did this just move them from Nuclear to center of the Sun pissed off?

I have not yet sensed that this outrage borders near what happened in 2013.

So, the administration is successful in even waiting the big $ guys out until they accept the fate that we are Berkley.

They have nearly accomplished their mission.

CDC ain't playing chess, my man. You're just going to trust me because at least with me, I'm going to tell you how it is, regardless of whether it's in the best interest of my business.
No need to take potshots. I may be completely wrong here and CDC could be completely over his head. As I said, we will see.

So, he is just a used car salesman?

Not up to the job?

We all have strengths and weaknesses. He certainly has a lot of strengths. I think from the contract extension to the lack of leadership with the eyes to ghosting the coach he's now telling people he's supporting to not having a plan b.... we're learning about the areas he has weaknesses in.

So, his strength is kissing ass, not leadership. Exactly like the traditional Texas AD.

Jimbo went 5-6 his last year at FSU and that didn’t stop a&m for going after their guy. If Franklin is CDC’s guy I’d hope he’d realize one bad year doesn’t mean he’s not a good coach. (I’m not campaigning for Franklin fwiw)
Not enough people are disciplined enough to think like you. Human nature is to pick up the newest and shiniest option on the table, which is what got us into this mess in the first place. In other words, don’t make a 6 year financial decision (4 years + buyout) based on the last three games.

I think the drinking stuff is slander that doesn't seem based in reality considering I've been told that he quit drinking many months ago.

The Eyes stuff? Wake up and see what really happened IMO.

Alienating donors? Yeah, that's true.
I don’t know how you can say that Herman didn’t screw up the Eyes situation. Maybe CDC shared blame in the beginning but once he absorbed major blowback he adjusted. Herman never did and in fact lied to the public about CDC’s updated policy. Both men share blame for misunderstanding the donor reaction and not refocusing the players on present day social justice solutions rather than a symbolic issue from the distant past.

I agree with both of you.

a. There's no maybe about sharing the blame. CDC simply didn't act with authority and swiftness.

b. It never needed to reach the blowback stage if he had been proactive. You letting him off the hook for finally addressing this only after the TCU game is fascinating to me.

c. How do you know he "lied"? CDC has never had the balls to say that. He';s never dared talk about any o this in the last five months? He planted three head coaches to release statements, most of whom have zero to few Black players (let alone dozens of them) and had them make comments without any context or follow-up or appreciation for the complexity of Herman's situation.

My goodness, hold him 1/4 as accountable as you would Herman.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, it's not just 18-year old 5 stars that like being courted and being made to feel special.

@Ketchum Maybe Urban simply doesn't like Herman and although he has no problem being courted and all, He also has no problem seeing Herman squirm?
