Ketch's 10 Thoughts From The Weekend (I have something to say about The Eyes of Texas...)

Great write up!

June almost caused me to leave.....after 20 years. But you’re handling this perfectly and I appreciate your honest frustration and candor. Well done my man...

But....beat it?! Not in his top 10. Be better man 🤣😉

Hook’em!
It's a pretty universal Top 10 solo for him, no?

Del Conte needs to meet with Texas athletics leadership this week and not come out of the room until the situation is resolved in a way that preserves the school song.

While he's doing that, new Texas president Jay Hartzell needs to meet with leadership from the band, cheerleaders and other key organizational groups affiliated with the school, and not come out until the same thing is accomplished.
yes yes yes yes yes yes yes. This absolutely needs to happen.

Your no. 1 @Ketchum is outstanding and I couldn’t agree more. In the grand scheme of life what is important to you and your happiness. Not your happiness today or the next 2yrs once all this is most likely a distance memory. Your happiness for the rest of your life? Is the incredible amount of energy you are exhausting today for whatever cause going to change your life for the better for the next several decades? Is the squeeze worth the juice?

Beautiful tribute to Sean Adams. Stories like that make sure he’ll never die. Tough week for all of us, especially the mods. It’s always more fun when we win, but thanks to the mods for being classy and letting us vent.
Part of our jobs is to read the room correctly. Last night warranted special considerations.

Thanks. I weirdly view what happened in June as a needed event. It's kind of like getting a physical when you're 50. We'd all rather not have something go into our ass in the name of a health check-up, but it is the thing that has to happen sometimes.

Great write up @Ketchum! Between last night's chat, and this peace you have done yourself well. This is the Ketch we have been missing for a while. You open candor last night was much needed on all fronts.

The section about the 2005 MNC and Sean Adams hit me in the feels. He is greatly missed!
Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts. It means a lot.

Thanks for giving me a little grace. I've got 77 unanswered Pms right now. At some point I was either going to answer PMs all night or do the chat last night. I decided the chat needed to be done, but it'll take me days to catch up on my PMs.

I'll try and find yours and cut it to the front of the line in the morning.
@AnwarsFedora always ignores my PMs

Really great writing Ketch! RIP Sean Adams. I was originally someone who didn’t care much about The Eyes one way or another. I have, over time, realized that it meaning so much to so many can be equivalent/more important than it being offensive to some. Both sides should be considered. I rarely sing the song but I do stand with my Horns raised out of respect to those it means more to than it does to me. I don’t see why the players cannot do the same. Clearly this situation was handled very poorly by CDC and above. I am not a fan of Urban Meyer but right now I’d swallow my objections and be happy that he was here. I drive A German car so I guess I can support a coach like Meyer if he wins. I am pretty sure that the last two coaches were hired, at least partially, based on the hotness of their wives. I haven’t looked up UM’s wife.
You need to post more.

Urban needs a comeback, he knows media and the media loves a comeback story. Urban won’t be the coach at Texas in 2021 because he’ll get the team back to the Big 12 title game - it’ll be because he can lay out a compelling vision to put all the bbs back in the box and fix the brand.

@Ketchum thank you sir. I was about to cancel in June. I pray leadership rights the ship in the next 2 weeks. If not, I’m done.

CDC sucks at everything besides organizing tailgating and his wardrobe. Absolutely should be gone, but we of course had to give him a premature extension for no reason, as well.

Ketch, I stopped reading after your thoughts on the Eyes. I’m going back to finish the rest, but I had to stop to tell you that’s the not only best thing you’ve ever written, it’s without a doubt the most important.

Like you, I wasn’t fortunate enough to attend Texas, but it’s been ‘my’ school since I was a boy, and you articulated my feelings perfectly as an “adoptee”. There have been two iconic sports moments in my lifetime - watching Street to Peschel with my parents and grandparents as a 10 year old, and VY on 4th down with a dear friend. I’ll never forget either one.

Were I in charge, I’d make everyone involved in solving this horrible problem sit down and read your work, reflect awhile, then come together and work it out. It’s that good.

Thank you for articulating what I couldn’t.
Thanks for sharing a little piece of your soul. That's what this place is all about.

And just to back up what everyone else is saying, amazing column. Thank you for your words on The Eyes. It's how we all feel.

Thats the question I’ve been asking all of my UT student friends since the whole thing started. Very mixed responses. As someone who grew up with that song as the background to every single one of my saturdays growing up, it sent needles through my heart when one of them told me it’s “its just a stupid f’n song”. It’s a much more than just a song to a lot of people.

Amen brother!

That song and I go back to the 60’s where my dad (who never went to college but was a lifelong Texas fan) and myself would proudly stand....HookEm Horns fully extended and sing the song. This beautiful song was played at his funeral. It sure as f*ck is NOT a stupid song.

To this day, everytimeI hear the song....it brings me chills. I have always been proud to be an alum, pay my dues....and to be associated with this outstanding university ....until now. I will get it back....no doubt but only after the serious changes take place in the administration and in the program.

HOOKEM!

Nice job @Ketchum
This will probably get me to change my decision from the Twitter debacle and undo the cancellation of my yearly subscription.
This board has been a daily part of my life for many, many years. I had stepped away the last few months because anything to do with Herman and the football team just pisses me off. Of course I am on full-tilt after Saturday. I have emailed CDC.
I can’t root for this team, this particular set of players and coaches any longer.
Either attitudes change and actions change In relation to the Eyes or they all must go.

Absolutely your best, most descriptive and insightful article yet. The Eyes of Texas is a unifier for our University, not a divider. Thank you for your passion when describing bonding moments through our Alma Mater. Please forward this article to President Hartzell and the Committee “reviewing” the Eyes of Texas.
