Ketch's 10 Thoughts From the Weekend (It's all about Sam for me... again...)

I don't think it will happen on our side until we play Baylor 2 or 3 times with the conference championship on the line (or at least both sides going into the game with no more than one loss). For the most part, Baylor sucked when Mack was on a roll and we sucked when Briles was on a roll.
It's dead even in the last decade and when you consider other sports, I'd contend the right here and right now is more relevant than the decade before the last decade.

None from that group stands from the pack even a little?
TCU has been a major thorn in our paw since coming to the Big12. Gary Patterson really hates UT and his team always plays us really hard. That being said BU and UT always get pretty chippy when they play.
I would have to pick these two as the next tier rivals below OU.

Baylor ticks more boxes in other sports, no?

@Ketchum you mentioned in the B/S section that you think we close on 3 out of the 4 remaining targets, which one do we miss on?

Yes, they do. They've owned us lately in Basketball, both mens and womens. There is something about Baylor that feels dirty and crooked. Art Briles, Scott Drew and the whole Baylor board of regents make me want them out of our lives forever. They're a stain that won't wash off, a stench that won't go away, something you stepped in and can't get off your shoe.
You make a good case W/L wise for them being a rival, but I don't want to give them any credibility by playing them . They are bottom feeders who have had a recent string of good luck due to their nefarious methods and ways . If we could change the conference, they should be the first to go .IMO.
I get what you're saying , but there is something very tainted about their athletic programs.

I hate Baylor with a passion, when I watched the referees screw Texas in order to give Grant his win, I started hating Baylor.
Then when I got back to my car someone had taken a big rock and bashed the driver side door.
I blamed myself because I had left a Texas hat in the back window.
You would have thought that stealing the game would have been enough but they had to vandalize my car.
I agree on Sam. Due to the injuries to the defense I think that there was so much pressure on Sam to score on every series that he and Herman got way too conservative. JMO.
F******* Baylor and all their female anatomy cult fanatics.

Again, enough of this make-believe wish for Ketchum.

fair enough.

As it stands, Texas fans only really acknowledge one rival that it plays each year. That's kind of boring.
We need to rebuild a rivalry with Arkansas and start one with LSU.
Our recruiting would improve to the extent that the TCU’s, Texas Tech’s, KU’s, KSU’s and BU’s would be our gimmes.

I agree, and we can all thank DeLoss for that situation. Imagine how much fun playing LSU, OU, Arky and aggy every year would be if our administration would just suck it up and join the SEC in 2025. Pure fan nirvana.
We could do the Arky and LSU thing without going to the SEC. That along with the national game each year would front load our schedule and help recruiting for Texas, LSU and Arkansas. It would kill the team in College Station.

Those schools should always be gimmies, rivals or not.

That schedule feels potentially counterproductive.

We only play one premiere out of conference team per year, so playing LSU and Arky each year is impossible. They also wouldn’t want to play us permanently, and we wouldn’t either since we like the Ohio St, Michigan and USC type games too.

Joining the SEC with OU would get us OU, LSU, Arky and aggy every year, and we could play our one top out of conference game. Bonus is Baylor and TCU most likely get dumped out of the P5, so they no longer are recruiting threats. It’s a win-win-win situation. Of course our administration needs to get their heads out of their asses.

You way overrated Parasite. 7.6

Playing one premiere out of conference foe each year is a ballsy move IMO. With LSU, Mich, tOSU and Bama on the horizon, the out of conference schedule is very strong. Maybe the thought process is some of the in conference games are or should be gimme's . OU has been and will continue to be strong, BU has been strong the last decade, remains to be seen if that continues. OSU is consistently good and will be as long as Gundy"the man" is there. TCU has done more with less and like Gary Patterson or not ,he has them competitive most years. ISU has been good as well for the last decade, so that leaves TTU, KSU and KU as the gimmes. And I'm not real sure KSU belongs in that group, but with Snyder moving on, who knows.
Bottom line , our future schedule is pretty daunting. I hope we're up to it. Big game Tom seems to have a knack for overachieving in big games.

Texas should join the Big 1G- there is only one school in the SEC that is academically a match for Texas
Assuming your match school is Vanderbilt (higher SAT scores and higher rates than UT), Florida has a good reputation. BTW, I still agree with your point. B1G has a lot of top notch state schools.

I can't stand teams that have more than 1 rival. Rivalries are unique. Rivalries are about history. Rivalries are (usually) close in head to head games, no matter what the rankings are that year. Rivalries opponents have that game date circled on the calendar. Rivalries is the hatred between 1 school. Rivalries play every year. Games can be special, but it doesn't necessary mean they are a "rivalry" game. Rivalry games MEAN MORE!

OUSux is our rival. Plain and Simple. It is the game circled on our calendar every year.
Aggy are just delusional with Little Brother syndrome. We may be their rival but we sure aren't theirs.
Baylor.... No ketch, just no.... Why not just say ever Big12 team is our rival then? Or every team in Texas is our rival then? Good Grief. I hate this topic

Why do we have to have academic "matches" ? Does that really matter. Don't forget Nebraska Maryland ,Illinois, Indiana, Colorado and Rutgers are in the conference. Are they really an academic match for Texas?

My contention is that there is a level of hate that Texas fans have towards Baylor, for a variety of reasons, that seems to fit into a rivalry narrative.
