Ketch's 10 Thoughts From The Weekend (Nothing but positivity)

"Unforgiven" is the best western ever made in my opinion. The juxtaposition of same guy who gets stomped and crawls out of the bar on his belly comes back and shoots the unarmed bar owner cold to start it off. Maybe best scene in a western ever.

"He should have armed himself"
That entire scene is a masterpiece.

I believe the success of this season, and the rest of Sark's career as a head coach, rests on his ability to actually enact last season's "All Gas No Brakes" mantra. I was disappointed with his M.O. of playing not to lose in the 2nd half of games, crouched on the sidelines looking at his clipboard.
Sark being the best version of himself as a head coach is pretty critical.

I have very rarely tasted good cole slaw. It usually ends up in the trash.

I used to make cole slaw when I worked for Bert's BBQ one day. I poured too much sugar into it on accident and sent it out to be served.

People LOVED it.

So, I kept doing it, even though I never dared eat it.

10. Maalik and Arch

None of us knows how much playing time the backup quarterbacks are going to see, but every single rep each of them takes will be a fascinating glimpse into the 2024 season. Will Arch even get to cut it loose inside of four games? How much will Maalik be able to showcase his development? Will there be an injury? If so, what happens? I've got my popcorn ready.

Easy under on 4 games for Arch. Barring injury of course

We're getting close to the point where everyone just wants to see it on the field. Offseason stories are cool. However, every team "wins" the offseason. I'm sure Kansas is full of the same optimism right now. I get it.

We’re beyond that point.

I thoroughly enjoy yours and Alex's use of statistics when addressing different topics. As a fellow stathead, I spend hours thumbing through the different advanced stats on " college football data". Do you have any recommendations on where to get some quality info?

The Athletic comes out with some fascinating data throughout the year, but maybe not consistently. Yet, when it's good, it's GOOD.

7. CJ Baxter and Anthony Hill

You guys know I love me some five-stars. These are dudes that should be future NFL players and I can't wait to see what they look like as babies. I can still vividly remember the first time the likes of Vince Young, Cedric Benson and Derrick Johnson took the field for the first time. The early portion of the careers of Baxter and Hill really intrigues me.

Benson didn’t really flash his first game. J-Charles however pretty much had everyone saying “”Ho Lee Phuk” every carry in his debut.

Benson walking out on the field brought out in an energy in the crowd that you could feel. Every time he touched the ball, the stadium made a different kind of noise.

Totally agree on Unforgiven. Almost fell out of my chair at the "Man should have armed himself." dialogue.

clint eastwood Deserve's got nothing to do with it. GIF

4. Escape From Alcatraz

Per Wikipedia, Quentin Tarantino called it "both fascinating and exhilarating... cinematically speaking." Yours truly, agrees with QT.

The scene on the steps with English is awesome in its simplicity

6. Any Which Way You Can

I don't care what any of you say, this was the movie that made me love Eastwood as a kid. The great Philo Beddoe (a former OPB alias of yours truly) vs. Jack Wilson.

Love that flick. Oddly enough I never saw the first one.

Honorable mention: Where Eagles Dare, For a Few Dollars More, A Perfect World, Million Dollar Baby, A Fist Full of Dollars, Thunderbolt and Lightfoot, Play Misty For Me, The Beguiled and Kelly's Heroes

10. Gran Torino

Watched it this weekend for the first time and decided that it needed to make the list.

Absolute Power is underrated IMO. I liked Gran Torino but not Top 10 liked

Great read! Three thoughts:
1) How refreshing is it to be able to say we're going to lose half a dozen players to the NFL when a few shorts years ago we didn't have enough talent to lose a single player to the NFL?
2) Good for you to have the balls to put "Bridges" on the list. Everyone knows Clint can play the tought guy, but he really acted his ass off in that movie. It was underappareciated.
3) I believe mustard potato salad is a completely different food than mayo potato salad. Mustard based PS is freaking delish!

Sure. But at the end of the day he averaged them 5 yds/carry against UNMS. Meanwhile averaged nearly 10 yds/carry on 14 carries against Louisiana. Infinitely more impressive.

They both suck but give me cole slaw.

I've always HATED potato salad, as in won't touch it, but I had some at some little mom and pop BBQ place in St. Martin a couple years ago and it was freaking fantastic. I couldn't get enough of it. Not sure what that lady did with hers but I'd kill for the recipe.

Agree. I find solid at least Cole slaw is easier to get than the same level potato salad. Granted I know most plays go heavy with mustard on tater salad but I grew up with mayo based. And Don’t get me started on the warm German potato salad crap at Salt Lick

Not the first time that charge has been made. 🤣
Haha. I always enjoy your movie / music adds to the articles. This is the first time I actually spent a minute or two thinking about the choices before viewing your results. I said to myself, “He has bitten off more than he can chew with this one.” Excellent article.

Ohtani man wtf.
I’m not near the avid baseball fan I once was but, man, oh man….

It was always explained to me by coaches and self-styled experts that pitchers could never be good hitters, even if they are naturally talented hitters, because pitchers (and all of the practice pitching entails) lack the time to log the amount of BP required to maintain great hitting in the league.

So what is going on with Ohtani?
Any board experts know?

Does he spilt time, have an insanely long daily practice regimen, or is he just such a naturally great hitter he can get away with less BP than all of his non-pitching teammates.

How does he do this?

1. agreed.
2. thank you.
3. 🤢

Nice write up! I'm not going to quibble with your Eastwood list. That is a gargantuan task and everyone's individual personalities/tastes will rearrange the ones you've mentioned in various different orders. I totally agree on Unforgiven at No 1, though. I watched that one again just a few days ago, and it is solid as a rock. It seems like my viewings of Heartbreak Ridge is right up there with yours too. There are so many quotable lines there. My list would have edged that one up the rankings, but great job on the list.

That QB photo!! LOL The guys all looked pretty ripped, but Maalik!! My God, he just towers like a giant over the other guys. That Maalik vs Arch battle is really going to be interesting. It makes me a little sad because I'd love to see both of them have careers at Texas.

I'm talking about the buzz when they hit the field. You are talking about something else. Yes, Jamaal was a bad ass,
