Ketch's 10 Thoughts From the Weekend (The worm sure does turn fast these days...)

Been here a long time. You are not same guy. Obviously you have been successful. So have I. You burn out. Stress, family, demands in general, shitty clients, boredom.
well, of course we all change, but I can assure you that I'm still fun.

Nope, I'm just telling you that they would beat Tech by 10+.

Tech is shitty. Them beating Texas didn't changed that. It just revealed Texas for being poop as well.
Are you perhaps enjoying some blue libations this evening? For some reason you typing Tech is shitty made me LOL.

@Ketchum
I'm a McCallum Knight, class of 1980. Quarterbacks my Jr. and Sr. years were Ronny Jacoby and Danny Akers (Fred's son).

Any D1 prospects on this McCallum team?

I wish. My daughter kneed me in the balls two hours ago and it still hurts like hell.

"Texas hired Herman because decision-makers believed he was an elite coach in the making. Those decision-makers better be right because these parts will no longer be won by someone who is less than that."

When Mack wilted in the face of strong competition from OU, the Administration contented itself with big revenues, and selling fans that 10 wins and minor bowls were good enough. When we had our shot at hiring the greatest coach in the history of college football, our weak minded president allowed himself to be scared away by a jealous, self-serving outgoing coach and his conflicted lawyer.

Let's hope this time the UT Administration gets a major wakeup call, and realizes they've got a race to win, and continuing to just drive the speed limit isn't going to cut it.

Missouri would beat Tech by double digits.

How much Missouri have you watched this season?

I've watched just about every game due to family ties. Even on paper they are nearly identical. Tied for 94 in scoring defense with Mizzou being #10 in scoring offense while Tech is #26.

Tech only gave up 10 more yards/game more than Tech while Tech's defense played a much more challenging schedule.

Tech was top ten in the country in turnover margin at +11 while Mizzou is 90th at -4.

Missouri was one of the most turnover teams in the country at 104 with 21 total turnovers

Mizzou strength of schedule is 58 while Tech is 29.

There's nothing about this game, either through the eyeball test or by the stat sheet, that indicates Mizzou would win that game by double digits.

Tech is absolute shit.

Until the Texas debacle, it only beat Kansas and Baylor in Big 12 play.

Stop.

The last time a program hired away a coach with a national championship on his resume from the school he won the championship?

40 years.

Not hyperbole.
I presume you are talking about Johnny Majors going from Pittsburgh to Tennessee. Majors was successful at Tennessee, but never won a national championship. On the other hand, Saban and Meyer have won national championships at 2 different universities. That is a bigger statement. I don't put Fisher in the same category as those 2, but he is close. I agree it was a major coup, if it works out well, or a major disaster if it doesn't. It's only donor money. They want the best team money can buy. Unfortunately so do we and many others. If we had not terminated Charlie last season, we may have been the ones paying Fisher this year.

Dobbins made the right decision in not coming to Texas. Behind our OL he would have been just another running back. We are going absolutely NOWHERE on offense until we get the OL situation fixed, and I don't expect that it will happen quickly. I marvel at how far this program has fallen and how deep the hole is that we find ourselves in. Truly depressing. We are getting ready to find out if Herman is the elite coach we initially thought him to be. I would like to say I am optimistic, but this year has proven to be a true wakeup call - for me at least.

There's basically no one the could have hired outside of Saban, Meyer, Harbaugh or Dabo that would represent a better and more dynamic hire.

They have a guy with a national title. Four of those guys currently exist.

I really like this article every week. However this week I hate it. I hate it because you are right. We could have had the entire damn state on lockdown. I do not fully blame Herman but his prints are on this as well. The majority of the current players seem like they could care less about winnng. They don’t seem to mind if they lose. I’m not sure this thing gets fixed next year or not. If it doesn’t then it will be an uphill recruiting battle and possible a good coach sitting on a very hot seat. I’m not worried about A&M long term but short term it’s not good for us. I can’t even begin to explain what an OU Heisman and National Champion would do to us. It’s time to wake the F$&K UP Mr. Herman.

Mizzou is absolute shit.

Until it was gifted a final 5 games that didn't include a single opponent that didn't have a 100 or worse offense, defense, or both.

It's best win was v. a Florida team who fired it's coach the week before and had one of the worse offenses in the country and a defense in the 70s.

It took a come from behind win in the fourth quarter v. an Arkansas team that went 1-7 in the SEC and was outscored by over 120 points in SEC play for them to even be bowl eligible.

The combined record of Mizzou's final four opponents in SEC play was 5-27. Mizzou beat no bowl eligible teams, Tech beat 3.

I love your work Ketch, but you're speaking from your feels on this one and not from a point of statistical or observational reference.

Fisher the most dynamic hire ever? Hyperbole much? The hire and terms in my opinion were/are monumentally stupid. $75 mm GUARANTEED?!?!?! Are you kidding me? To a guy who just got run out of Tallahassee, and was plainly slipping.

Your saying what A&M did was a big boy move because “they are in it to win it”, is tantamount to praising someone for borrowing money to play blackjack and putting everything into one hand. If he sucks in 3 years they will have to pay that guy $75 mm. Think about that.

C’mon Ketch. Be better

Ketch’s points are solid. He is being ‘better’. Time to give up shooting the messenger.

Very good read on Jimbo to A&M. Herman MUST sit down and make some very hard decisions regarding the offensive coaching staff or he will be left in the dust by Fisher and Riley in recruiting. Fisher has a proven track record as a coach-a natty. Riley has to still prove he can win with his own players, which I feel he can. So, Herman has to really up his game as a HC. In addition to decisions on offensive coaches, he MUST go find a transfer qb. If he goes 6-6 or even 7-5 next year he will be in big trouble. The BMD's will not be quiet with what is happening in College Station and Norman.

@Ketchum I appreciate you because sometimes you just gotta be real. Whatever Jimbo is or is not, he has a ring. A&M made the hire Texas wanted to make, just better. Much bigger splash.

OU showed UT how to maintain winning continuity. Hell, it’s not a new thing for them (minus a few Gibbs/Blake) years. It’s foreign to Belmont Hall.

The Year 2 rule is in full effect. Herman is on the clock.

Ketch, are you hearing that Del Conte is interested in the Texas job?

Can he be lured away from TCU? How realistic is that?

I think TH is probably clueless right now on what to do. Why? Anyone that was confident about this team coming into the season isn’t very good at reading their own team.

Now he has OU in the playoff, Jimbo in CS, LSU at 9 wins, and his team is losing players left and right and it doesn’t look any better next year.

Year 2 of TH will be fascinating to watch. It will also determine his fate IMO.
