Ketch's 10 Thoughts From The Weekend (Trying not to be too hyperbolic, but...)

Re: Bijan vs Charles…without looking at stats…I just don’t see the explosive plays, and I see too many run into the Oline and stop for no gain plays. Could be wrong - but that’s what my head sees. He is really good - but not Earl, Ricky, Charles, DForeman level.
Foreman? Holy shit.

for the record Bijan has a higher YPC than jamaal while playing behind a much much much worse offensive line his whole career

I know we’re just talking college here but peak Ricky might be the best running back ever.
I agree. I’m not trying to argue he’s a better rb, I’m saying Bijan has better all around tools. Which is what I was getting at with the MJ/Kobe portion of my post. Kobe wasn’t better overall player, but he was the more skilled basketball player overall

You said you don't think Texas will lose the next two games but then you said you're leaning towards Oklahoma State? What gives

I’ve argued the same. I’m not sure I can think of another rb in my recent life that has all the moves Bijan has, and at an elite level. Only thing he doesn’t have is game breaking speed. Everything else, he’s as good as/better than anyone

edit: still doesn’t compare to Ricky Though

Yet, I have to state very loudly for the record that I'm convinced that we're watching something special each week with Robinson in what most assume will be his final season as a Longhorn player before heading off to the even greener pastures of the NFL.
Is there any chance Bijan returns? What is that percentage? 5%?

The crazy thing is, he rarely has a hole to run through. And by rarely probably once per game.

Take a look at Saturdays game. These highlights are just of him and they show that the guy often times makes two or three cuts just to get past the LOS. He's a 2200 yard rusher this year with a great run blocking oline. Talent wise he's a top four Texas back for sure.

Great read Ketch.

I posted my thoughts on Bijan in another thread earlier today which your summary makes me feel like we’re aligned on how special Bijan is.

I appreciate you breaking down the next two weeks’ Big 12 key games and their implications. In a nutshell, we just need to win our next two…and ideally win out, particularly if we want to finish ranked in the Top 10 (or possibly Top 5)…and give Bijan a bigger stage to get much more public appreciation that the young man is deserving of.

Great write up. My brother and I have been arguing Bijan’s standing in Texas history by the time he leaves and you and I see pretty much eye to eye on that! It’s whether he’s #4 or 5 on the list at the end of it all. Will be interesting to see the rest of the year
what would have to happen for him to supplant Cedric?

Never really considered it. Was mainly whether he is better than jamaal at the end.
where do you think he is on that list of greats? Compared to Jamal and Cedric.

I think the system matters for that discussion. In Mack’s system (early 2000 offense) yes. In Sarks offense no. I mean Cedric ran for over 1k every year and nearly 2k his senior year when everyone knew they were going to feed him and yet they couldn’t stop him. He was special. Comparing him to Bijan is apples and oranges in my opinion.
@Ketchum we will find out this week. Cedric nearly single handily took down Ok State at home in ‘04 as part of that mega comeback.

Cedric will always be underrated. Unfortunately had to follow Ricky right after. Had one of the other ones been in-between it may be a deferent story.

also, he didn’t get injured. Has that over Bijan at the moment. Only injury I know of is 3rd snap of the TX Michigan game. Still played the entire thing as a “decoy”

Agreed. No telling how many yards he has with 50% better line.

To me, Bijan's running style reminds me of Emmitt Smith. Emmitt was not a burner like Jamal. He was not the physically punishing, tough-to-tackle bulldozer Earl was. He was not quite the power runner in the style of Ricky or Cedric. Emmett just made defenders miss. That is what Bijan does. As a receiver, I think he is better than Emmitt.

How would you rank them just on talent? Not resumes.

all that matters IMO is getting into the Big 12 title game.

The ranking doesn't matter at this point,.
