Ketch's 10 Thoughts From The Weekend (Please Texas... make me wrong)

I actually think we take a step back next year.

We probably lose AD, and X. We lose Jones on the OL. We lose J T Sanders,

We lose Ford and probably several DTs not to mention Catalon and J Thompson.

Oh and we play in the SEC next year. And our OOC schedule has Michigan if I’m not mistaken.

This will be our best team for the next two year’s minimum.

We need to win now

Bonus: If we win big this year it will help in the portal to keep the drop off small
I think there's more talent in the wings than you do.

"Crazy talk" not crazy pills... stuff runs together for me sometimes. Unless you were only talking about the Gbenda/Crawford comment, but it didn't seem that way at the time.

Our conversation from one of these threads in July was also in my memory:
I said the unit could very easily take a step back. Doesn't man I would be shocked if it didn't.

VERY few bands have musical impact on 4 decades. I never hear their music on the general radio stations that I listen to on satellite. Beatles, Stones, Who, Led Zep, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Queen, Heart, Fleetwood Mac, Eagles, Aerosmith, Petty are examples of bands that are consistently on a number of stations every day.

Never hear much from U2 cause most of their music is repetitive. IMHO, Bono as a brand is bigger than U2 the band.
lol. You don't hear U2 songs on the radio? That's just crazy talk.

U2 have sold 175 million records worldwide. With 52 million certified units by the RIAA, U2 rank as the 22nd-highest-selling music artist in the US. U2 have eight albums that have reached number one in the US, the third-most of any group.

The passing efficiency you predicted for Ewers would have been 20th in the nation last year. Not bad.

However the yards/completion, 8.1, would have only been 36th in the nation. That would imply that Ewers did not connect well on the long ball. Not good.

Ketch-

Thank you again for putting this together and thank you for the shout out. When I mentioned the ‘80s and the Country music I didn’t expect you to tackle it in one go.

The wife and kiddos went to bed an I just sat down and went down memory lane watching the performances of many of these songs on YouTube. I think these lists, while prob quite different than mine, are fantastic.

My quick thoughts:

Country: Love the list. I wasn’t kidding when I said my 8yr old son’s favorite singer right now is Keith Whitley. He got a kick out of seeing “Don’t Close Your Eyes” on the list. I think “The Dance” would be a pretty high on my list.

Duets: I think you hit this one pretty good but many of your honorable mentions would be in my top 5. Islands In the Stream, Time of My Life, Endless Love, Almost Paradise are all top 10’s for me but with so many good songs…..tom-A-toe tom-ah-toe.

Hard Rick/Metal: Great list but man I have to say I am a little surprised one of my favorite Metallica songs didn’t make this list “For Whom the Bell Tolls”. Great list though.

Pop: This one is a crap shoot. There are about a hundred songs I could put in my top 10 depending on my mood for the day. It’s crazy how random 80s songs will just pop up on my radar and the kids and I listen to them. The ones we are listening to now are “All I need is a Miracle” and “Eyes in the Sky”. Neither are probably top 10 material but it just goes to show the depth of how great 80s music was.

Rap: Of all the lists this one is probably the closes to what mine would have been.

R&B: Another great list. As expected a lot of Whitney Houston.

Rock: Another great list but I probably would have had “In the Air Tonight” a little higher.

Overall: There is no right answer. I think there are 100 songs you could throw in there and most people would say “Oh Yea! I remember that song! It is amazing.”

Thanks again for putting this together.

Ryan
Great post.

Here's the list on Spotify:

“Quinn Ewers season prediction: 322 of 480 attempts, 3,900 yards, 34 touchdowns and 8 interceptions (155.38 efficiency rating)”

That prediction and a 9-3 prediction. C’mon man.

Bellamy Brothers top 10 is needed @Ketchum

This week’s top 10 is a LOT to unpack. Quite honestly, I think He Stopped Loving Her Today is overrated. Terrific song sure. But really gets a little sappy. Not sure how Lady warrants only honorable mention. It was a MASSIVE hit on all 4 major charts, reaching #1 on 3 of them including the Hot 100.

I missed the news about Evan Stewart transferring.

I guess I also missed the news about INXS- I Need You Tonight being a ballad.

Ok, you said it was crazy talk to say that the defense would be better than the 2022 defense, and then later said that you didn't think the defense would be "anywhere close" to being ranked in the top 20 nationally (last year's defense finished 8th in defensive FEI and 14th in defensive F+ rankings).

Now a month later you are saying you think the defense will be a plus unit and better than they were last year.

We aren't talking in absolutes here, but its nice to see your opinion has changed based on what you are hearing.

Great 10TFTW, Ketch! Where to begin?…

In terms of your Top 10 lists, such an impossible task. That said, any Top 10 list from the 80’s that doesn’t have MJ’s [insert song here] appearing at #1 is invalid in my mind. The story of music in the 80’s begins and ends with MJ, period.

Michael Jackson Grammy GIF
Fair, but my No.1 is generally considered the best country song of all-time.

Michael Jackson / Paul McCartney “Say, Say, Say”
Paul McCartney / Stevie Wonder “Ebony and Ivory”
Barbara Streisand / Barry Gibb “Guilty”

🤷🏻‍♂️
Solid HM shouts. I like Say, Say, Say for most.

Yep. It’s always “next year”. Don’t we lose like 10 players to the draft after this season?
Potential breaking in a new QB, losing the middle of your defense (DT’s, MLB, safeties)
losing Barron, Watts… on offense X, Mitchell, JT, J Whitt. On top of that going to the SEC, and that’s the year?
The young defensive backs will be better than these older guys.

The young wide receivers will be sensational.

Arch very well could be better than Quinn.

Agree that this may be the most encouraging thing I've heard all off season, which is pretty impressive given the amount of Kool Aid that has been flowing.

This is the primary context in which your refusal to budge off of 9-3 makes perfect sense. The league doesn't need to tell the refs anything, they had it out for us before and I expect them to do their best to nut punch us on our way out the door. Die, Big 12, Die!!!
Bingo.

@Ketchum Did you take into account the new clock rules when predicting Ewers stat line? After watching some of Notre Dame and USC, play totals look to be significantly less.

IMO, Little Red Corvette is 10X the song When Doves Cry is, and it being his first HUGE hit is what paved the way for WDC popularity. Had WDC been released first, they’d be viewed differently.
10 times the song? Come on...

From Wiki: "When Doves Cry" became one of Prince's signature songs. Spin magazine ranked "When Doves" the No. 6 song of all time.[citation needed] In 2021, Rolling Stone ranked "When Doves Cry" No. 37 on its list of "The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time".[16] In 2006, VH1's "The 100 Greatest Songs of the '80s" ranked the song at No. 5.

144.38 means that there will be some sub-120-130 games in there.

It pained me to leave Lady out.

I personally like it more than some songs on the list. Maybe I should have dropped Mama He's Crazy.

That should be "Never Tear Us Apart" I corrected it. Good catch.

I agree man. I just think we are this year and next year away from being really good.

When Ant Hill and Arch’s class are juniors I expect to compete for the SEC championship. Need to land a few pieces in the portal at DT and a few other places but I expect to compete then.

My hope is a few OL from Kelvin Banks class are still around and starting as seniors

That 2022 OL class will be upperclassmen starting next year.

If we lose to TCU go ahead and fire the entire staff. That team lost every player who mattered last year.
They got a very solid portal class but I still think we beat them. They also have very solid LBs and DBs. Will be a tough game for our offense

And thank God we have them entering the first season in the SEC.

I’m mainly concerned about the offensive weapons we lose next year and the loses on defense. We’ll see I guess.

Good discussion. I’ll focus on this year now though and we can see what we have for next year after the season.

I think QE comes back for one more year so that should help

I think the WR unit next year will be exceptional. Same with the back end on defense.

Absolutely. Insane amount of talent back there. Especially at corner. Hope we can find time to get some of our young safeties experience this year.

WR same with More Niblett and Cook.
Hopefully G Helm sticks around for his senior year

Wow that was a great 10 thoughts lots of great info on the team.
I think 9 & 3 is the floor on the team & 11 & 1 is the ceiling but hopefully will be fun to watch I know I am so ready to see a team that dominates teams not be in a toss up game late in the 4th & if we do dominate less chance officials can screw us.
On your song lists I don't agree with all but outstanding job to go through all those lists

I’m definitely speaking from a personal level. I graduated high school in ‘86 with MTV being a huge player in my youth. LRC was a stop down watch, while WDC was an immediate channel change.

I get that stylistically WDC matters historically, but I think LRC paved the way. Had WDC been his first hit, would it been as heralded? I don’t think so.

After a decade plus of disappointment, I’m still hesitant to drink the kool aid that everyone is hyping up again. Put me down for 9-3 but I could also see 8-4 😕
