Ketch's 10 Thoughts From The Weekend (Saying the quiet part out loud)

Honestly I really DGAF about either of their games. That’s where I am emotionally with Texas football. Honestly my only rooting interest for ISU was to see the Anti-Matt Campbell crowd squirm. Beyond that ZFG if OU and aggy won or lost.
I feel the exact same way. Last season, and the 25+ immediately preceding it, I DEVOURED any and all coverage of NSD....this season, I didn't watch 2 minutes...how does that come back....

Not getting rid of Herman after the last game has me worried of no change. Like what’s the wait for. Ash can always coach the bowl game. Hope something happens.
It was because of recruiting I've been told, and I'm also told Herman is being replaced after the bowl game...although the coaches out recruiting were telling the recruits that Herman was back. Crazy all the mixed messages.

You should definitely post less. Between this and your level 1 thread, maybe step away from the keyboard

Oh, did I mention that all of this happened a couple of days after the most depressing National Signing Day in the modern era of Texas football?

Just wondering what you consider the modern era of Texas football?

(Sell) Texas is a great quarterback away from an incredible resurgence.

What good is having a good QB if you can't block for him, provide him a running game, give him top notch WR's and give him a defense that can stop someone?

My bigger concern is that - even when Hermensa was getting highly ranked classes - the classes did not have much heft along the lines. Besides Coburn, Broughton and Collins, which OL / DL's have we gotten that are worth their salt? Without a good OL, the Bijan Robinsons of the world have a tough time etc. etc. etc.

After playoffs but before championship game? I know thats being pretty specific but thanks for any input. And I'm not even necessarily asking about the coach search just Herman getting fired. Thanks.

Oregon vs Iowa St.. we will have approached both coaches agents....

I am not happy with where we are now, but your negativity is beyond the pale. Do you have any reason to think Herman will not be back next year ? If not, why keep pumping the negativity that you have been putting out for months ? There are many factors that go into the current state of the Texas program. All the negativity on OB is one of them.
This is nuts. OrangeBloods is not a PR firm for The University of Texas. The football program under Herman creates enough of their own negativity. All OB does is point out what they see as wrong. That is not being negative. That is being realistic. A QB rating is math. It is what it is. Ketch didn't cook the books to make Sam look bad. Sam just took a step back this year (from 55 to 65 to 55%). It is what it is.

I am anything but a homer. The luck I am referring to is the luck in hiring Bob stoops who was a defensive coordinator and then hiring Riley who was an offensive coordinator and having them turn out to be good head coaches. Never said Riley was lucky. I’m saying he has to beat Texas when Texas has a good coach, over a number of years, before he is proven to be the level of coach you think he is.
I agree with this. BlowU took a chance both times and it paid off for them. There was a certain amount of both skill and luck in that.

Don’t understand why rb’a can smack the shit out of a defender with a stiff arm, but a defender gets anywhere near anyone’s head and it’s a penalty. Are we concerned about brain trauma or not?

I was going to ask this. There is a difference between a stiff-arm and a blow to head. Cmon.

Wow. You just proceeded to deploy your redundant Passer Rating obsession to completely trash Sam Ehlinger and essentially blame the inaccuracy of UT’s 2nd all time passing leader for ALL of UT’s shortcomings under Herman. So the reliable warrior and team leader who, more than any other player, is responsible for staving off 3 losing seasons in the past 4, deserves this type of classless, irresponsible send-off?

Did it ever occur to you that a QB’s passer rating is greatly determined by the OC, the offensive scheme, the caliber of receivers and O-Line and not just the QB’s accuracy? Did you happen to notice that Jalen Hurts, not exactly an elite passer, posted a 171.3 rating his one season at OU in The Lincoln Riley system surrounded by great talent? Like Jalen, Sam makes All American and gets invited to the Heisman ceremony if he’d had the good fortune to play in Lincoln‘s offense.

Disappointing.
Lincoln Riley would have benched Sam and tried to upgrade the position a long time ago.

Great column @Ketchum !! You stayed positive, kept on point, fetched up a few opinions on topics that seem hard to call and didn't seem to be gaging the political winds to seek the greatest favor with the subscription base. I feel like you just laid it out on how you see right now for Texas to best work out of this mess. Exactly the type of lead article I was hoping for. Thanks !!

Don’t forget about Colt and Mack being more relevant right now.

Post playoffs is what I've heard. They'll start with Urban, but they'll exhaust every outlet IMO, if needed.
Heard the same thing tonight. UM is still in play and UT is focusing on coaches and support staff in the final 4 he wants. As a contingency they are talking to other coaches and assistants, and some have already told us not to bother and some are listening. I was told the focus is on the final 4 (???) and NFL (???). No specific names were given, but I was told one name...Mullen was off the table. Final-4: Sark, Elliott? NFL: Rhule & Kingsbury? Could be others, but I don't know who that would be.

Nothing speaks to the current state of the Texas program more than Oklahoma winning its sixth consecutive Big 12 title and Texas A&M being on the cusp of a playoff spot. Longhorn fans could only root against those rivals in order to limit the emotional destruction of their psyches.

Maybe you can remember another time that surpasses this one, but for my money, it was the most Aggie-ish behavior I can remember in the two decades of Orangebloods.

Oh, did I mention that all of this happened a couple of days after the most depressing National Signing Day in the modern era of Texas football?

Our stagnant program these days is reminiscent of the mid-1980s, when the UT faculty enacted academic requirements that rendered the football program and men's basketball uncompetitive for over a decade. While our faculty was sinking our mens programs, our competitors were cleaning up in recruiting. Barry Switzer was playing for national championships and Jackie Sherrill had the Ags in the top 10, winning the conference, and playing Ohio State in the Cotton Bowl. In the midst of this faculty-induced sinkhole, donor groups were being told by DeLoss Dodds that they shouldn't expect Texas to dominate anymore, and that they shouldn't pressure to win championships because it might lead to cheating.

The UT Administration began a propaganda campaign to brainwash fans that they should be proud that their school did things the "right way". Apparently the "right way" didn't mean winning championships, since we've won so few in the past 37 years.

Could not agree more! We are not paying for your constant negativity particularly when it’s after the fact. Nothing makes sense during a pandemic so IMO most of what you write about this year get flushed. It’s not Herman’s fault Ingram fumbles on first and goal at the 1 against TCU or we lose to OU during the 4th OT.
Yes it was, even high school coach calls a time out there.
Did watch that high school coach in state championship game go for two in OT when he had all the momentum. It was Thursday night.
It called game control Herman has none. He coaches not to lose.
