Started watching Peaky Blinders on netflix a couple of weeks ago and half way through season 2. Good show. But damn, the soundtrack is friggin awesome. Heavy dose of Nick Cave, PJ Harvey, and White Stripes so far. Got me to thinking of if there is a better soundtrack (not score) to a TV Series. Maybe Soprano's? More of a varied selection of artists, but not what seems like the constant barrage of great songs on Peaky. any nominations?

Always thought the "70's-90's punk attitude" music used was an interesting combination with the content and setting. Added to it, and only slightly distracting at times.

But I guess the only other "attitude" music, that matches the post-WWI timeframe would have been some early vestiges of Jazz outside of Tin Pan Alley stuff. And would have been WAY lamer to do that.

Will check out the playlist on Spotify, and revisit.

I couldn't agree more. The music fits the story and mood perfectly.

Try Billions, it won't disappoint on any aspect.

I always laugh at the Peeky Blinders opening music because I heard it here first.

Peaky Blinders lyrics
One interesting fact is how the title of Red Right Hand was actually taken from John Milton's epic poem Paradise Lost. This comes when the demon Belial refers to God's red right hand, which will strike vengeance on the devil.

Take a little walk to the edge of town
And go across the tracks
Where the viaduct looms
Like a bird of doom
As it shifts and cracks
Where secrets lie in the border fires
In the humming wires
Hey man, you know
You're never coming back
Past the square, past the bridge
Past the mills, past the stacks
On a gathering storm
Comes a tall handsome man
In a dusty black coat with
A red right hand
He'll wrap you in his arms
Tell you that you've been a good boy
He'll rekindle all the dreams
It took you a lifetime to destroy
He'll reach deep into the hole
Heal your shrinking soul
But there won't be a single thing that you can do
He's a god, he's a man
He's a ghost, he's a guru
They're whispering his name
Through this disappearing land
But hidden in his coat
Is a red right hand
You don't have no money?
He'll get you some
You don't have no car?
He'll get you one
You don't have no self-respect
You feel like an insect
Well don't you worry buddy
'Cause here he comes
Through the ghettos and the barrio
And the Bowery and the slum
A shadow is cast wherever he stands
Stacks of green paper in his
Red right hand
You'll see him in your nightmares
You'll see him in your dreams
He'll appear out of nowhere but
He ain't what he seems
You'll see him in your head
On the TV screen
Hey buddy, I'm warning
You to turn it off
He's a ghost, he's a god
He's a man, he's a guru
You're one microscopic cog
In his catastrophic plan
Designed and directed by
His red right hand

The scoring on that show was outstanding. I'm not a huge fan of that kind of music, but it perfectly fit the show, IMO.

Godless is another that has excellent scoring.

Good research @BattleshipTexas !

The song was written in 1994 by Nick Cave, so obviously well ahead of Peaky.

Is Red Right Hand major campbell or tommy though? Actually, don't answer. I don't want any spoilers!

It is interesting how much music can make or break a show. I am convinced that the original Hawaii 5-0 back in the late 60s/70s was only a hit because of the great lead in soundtrack.
