Ketch's 10 Thoughts From the Weekend (On Bru McCoy, Mount Vernon ISD and more ...)

Alex Dunlap taking a shot at dairy farmers is not the way to garner support in a farming community.
All due respect, @Alex Dunlap is not trying to garner respect in a farming community....Mt. Vernon, or at least their elected leaders, have made a very loud statement about what is important to them. Alex is trying to make sure as many people as possible remind THOSE leaders about what the rest of us believe to be important. Say what you want about 2nd chances, but Art Briles should never be allowed to lead young men in this country ever again, in my opinion. I think that is the larger point of Alex's message.

However, a good portion of the people who are hyperventilating over Trump, were borderline silent in comparison regarding their offense about Clinton. Many call that hypocrisy. You can call it what you want.

I disregard anyone on either side of the political isle who is going to attempt and dictate how upset or outraged another person is or should be. The need to personally appoint themselves as the moral compass for someone else is easily one of the most repulsive traits that have exploded in the social media era.
I’m not telling anyone what to think, y’all can think what you want, but if you think Briles is an ok guy and you’re gonna defend him and Trump by saying, “what about Clinton????”, then I will tell you what I think about your moral relativism. Look, I didn’t vote for Clinton or Trump. I think they’re both horrible when it comes to their treatment of women. But if someone wants to spout off in defense of Trump and Briles by hollering about how scummy Clinton was in some lame sort of whataboutism, I’m gonna tell that dude that he’s an idiot. If that makes me an SJW so be it.

I get it, I’m not disputing that Briles is trash and should never be in a position of influence over children. Everyone wants to try and be clever and witty with their tweets, but the “milk man” comment is uncalled for and just takes away from his valid criticism.

I am not accusing you of doing so. I would have done it directly. Nor did I, or anyone else that I have seen, in any way defend Briles at all, or align the defense of Briles with anything Trump related.

I spoke to the general increase of people who feel the need to borderline demand outrage from others. It comes in spades from both sides of the political isle, which I clearly referenced in my previous post.

Thank you for you insight into moral relativism and the roundaboutism of insinuating somehow that arguments that were not made and have not been made by anyone in this thread have you so ready to be offended that you have a need to self-appoint yourself as a SJW as you finish your post.

Take a breath.... and again

Age is an excuse and yes a lot of players played really well at that age in the conference finals. Hakeem was 23, Tim was 24, Shaq was 23, Walton was 24. Malone at 22 averaged 35 percent more points a game and 30% more rebounds a game in the conference finals than the regular season though they lost to the Sixers. Some players are not ready for the big stage the first time they get to it but a lot of players are.
Sometimes an excuse is just a reason why something happens.

100%. I also think on the flip side we want to rush and compare exceptional athletes to greatest with a small sample size. I honestly don’t think we truly see how great a basketball player is until season 6-7.

Giannis has all the tools to take over LeBrons crown of best in the NBA. I just don’t see him as a top 5 player right now.
That is a great point. It also brings up an interesting conversation about who the best player in the season is versus who the best players in the sport are. He had an MVP level season, but he might not be a top-five player in the NBA if that makes sense.

Good stuff Ketch, especially 1. As someone whose been there, just love your daughter.
Also, great music list.
No. 10 is just scary.

Awesomeness read! Would have liked a “like” button on the Pierce question. When you are at rock bottom, up is all you got.

Lol if Sam Ehlinger decided to transfer you would drop every single thing in your life, go into some nuclear bunker and hire an OB crisis support team for that meltdown.

@Ketchum , I always have wondered your obsession with the Baylor/Briles situation....I now understand , since today you have been so gracious to lift the vail to your past . My son and daughter-in law both went to Baylor and never experienced the level of depravity that existed in the athletic department but at least now I understand your point of view and please except apologies for doubting you motivation.

Any notion that my thoughts on Baylor or somehow connected to some sort of a text that I carry against the school is incredibly missed placed. My grandparents went to Baylor. My dad is a former Baylor alum of the year. My first football games were Baylor football games. I used to go to DKR as a teenager and root for Baylor against Texas. I’ve got green and gold in my blood, but I also have eyes and I also don’t care nearly enough about football to Marginalize sexual assault victims because of my love for it.

I feel the same way about all sexual predators.

I said in another thread that Americans need to decide whether we're going to excuse bad to horrendous personal behavior by King (have you seen the latest disclosures?), the Kennedys, Bill Clinton, and Trump, not to mention that of assorted athletes (Rose, Bonds, etc.) and entertainers — in view of whatever else it is they bring to the table — or to elevate character as the ultimate filter through which all other judgments about them are made. I think we will continue to claim character matters, except when it doesn’t — when it’s those politicians, athletes, or performers whose output we like or believe "are on our side."

It isn't quibbling to point out that the statement: "one in every five women in this country has been sexually assaulted. Now you might be the kind of person that would rather quibble ... " is manifestly false. Proven false. When you make claims that are not true, your whole argument is bound to be disbelieved. It ruins what otherwise is a good point to make. The claim the Sexual Violence Resource Center uses is based on a questionaire that includes "have you ever felt pressure to sleep with a boyfriend" and uses that affirmitive answer as sexual assault. Even though the girl may be a virgin who has never even been kissed. They count her. It is wrong to continually post false claims, especially when you should know by now they are false.

It’s not Baylor. I know a lot of good people — friends and family members who went there and are appalled by what took place. It’s a very specific group of people there who bear the blame and should be held accountable.

I know you can’t control what your audience response to, but I wish there wereAs many people talking about section 10 and what’s inside of that then there are people trying to defend a vile man.

Seems to me that is what you did.
Only if one makes it so. I don’t see enabling and protecting sexual monsters as political. Some people can’t help but to defend the home team. The world isn’t much different than Baylor on the whole.

Way too many people have stayed in complete silence, in an effort not to rock the boat.

Absolutely. We had this debate in the kitchen a few days ago, and it’s hard to put him in the top 5 right now. Who does he bump out?

In no order...
Curry
Durant
LeBron
Kawhi
Harden
Lillard

I know it’s six, but all of those guys are above him right now as polished pro players.

The big problem here is that Briles was never convicted of any crime. He clearly did not do anything to instill a culture that respected women (or the law) but he never committed any of those acts himself or was present when they happened. I have plenty of faith in our criminal justice system that they would have arrested and charged Briles if there was any evidence they could have used to prove he was an accessory to those crimes.

That means he has the right to continue his life, have a job, vote, etc.

So, do we ban Art Briles, Jussie Smollett, and everyone else that appears to have done something wrong but was not charged with a crime from ever working again or ever being able to show their faces in public again? What about Urban Meyer, does he qualify for a permaban from life? Where do we draw the line?

Personally, I have reservations about ever letting violent rapists and murderers from participating in society again. I think they should be sent to an island for the rest of their life because their acts were so heinous. They can learn to farm and exist together on their island until they die. But we let those people out of jail every day and let them continue their life.

At the end of the day, we have to respect the rule of law and if someone is found not guilty, they get to live their life.

Art Briles will reap what he has sown. I do think there is more justice in life than people realize.
